Default Hitchcock 9 (1925-1929) - Imprint

Imprint has announced "The Hitchcock 9", the nine silent Hitchcock films restored by the BFI in 2012.

"The Hitchcock 9" includes films from both StudioCanal and ITV.

The BFI restored them in 2012 as a public service, but while they've always been screened together, they're never been released on home video together:

The Lodger - ITV
Downhill - ITV
Easy Virtue - ITV
The Ring - StudioCanal

This is going to make it a tough choice between the new UK StudioCanal set and this one, they both have titles exclusive to them.

Hitchcock completists will need both sets, it seems.

The Lodger and Blackmail are the only classic "Hitchcock thrillers" among the titles, the others are comedies, dramas and adaptations of stage plays, so they're a bit more obscure.

And likely different extras.

I'm tempted.

This means having to buy both sets to get all the films.

It's going to end up very expensive. I've already got the Kino releases, the Network release of The Lodger (with the awful score), the Spanish release of Downhill and the Criterion Lodger/Downhill. All I want is The Pleasure Garden, Easy Virtue and Juno and the Paycock to finish my Hitch collection.

To be fair, they haven't officially announced the titles.

While the talkie version of Blackmail wasn't part of "The Hitchcock 9," it's conceivable they'll include it s a bonus.

Still, it may not be the new restoration that's on the upcoming StudioCanal set.

Since I don't have lodger or downhill, this set seems more attractive to me

The restored "Pleasure Garden"...! Finally!
"Easy Virtue" will also presumably have sound to it this time around!

The good news is that the original negatives for Waltzes From Vienna and Secret Agent are held at the BFI. So hopefully we finally get those last two in HD eventually finishing off all 52 Hitchcock films.

I saw it on Facebook. I don't think this is an actual announcement yet, I'm assuming they only went public due to the announcement of the StudioCanal set and an actual formal announcement will be forthcoming.

Not every film will need it's own disc. If they can get it down to 6 discs, then I'd say maybe around $200. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was closer to $250, though.

If my math is right, to get the 7 from Kino (on sale) would be $70, plus the Lodger/Downhill from Criterion for $20 (on sale). That is $90. $200-$250 would definitely be a deal breaker for me for this set. Of course I am in the US, so shipping fees don't affect me which I am sure slants my view. If the transfers, supplements and packaging are superior to the US versions, I can see paying $120. but double that? whew...

I'm talking AUD, so that's about $160 in your money if we go on the high estimate.

Hope they don't use the soundtrack from the Network BD for The Lodger. The Criterion version is far superior.
Just want The Pleasure Garden and maybe an improved if possible Easy Virtue.
Interesting there's only 4.5 films overlap with the UK boxset, so not too bad for someone who doesn't already own the films.
