Default Washed rind cheese - Affedelice

Has anyone had this at an appropriately ripened stage? I've had this twice; I suspect overripe both times. I'm no expert at cheese, so I can't be certain. But, descriptions of this cheese range from "barnyard" to "kick in the nose" to "pungent". I found the aroma to be mostly ammonia to the point it interfered with the flavor. The first time, it was too strong to be around. The second one was not as strong, but still beyond pleasant. Please confirm that strong ammonia is overripe for this cheese. Otherwise, I just don't like it.

Uh . . . what? Never heard of it, but I do like cheese. As I've gotten older, I'm really starting to love cheese like Feta, Blue (crumbles, not dressing) and Gorgonzola . . . stuff that has that strong taste.

Is this stuff kind of like Brie, or not at all? I looked it up online and it says it should have a pungent odor . . . is it "tangy" like the ones I mentioned above?

I'm with BStecke. As I get older, I too enjoy a variety of cheeses. Specifically I am on the hunt to find a sharp cheddar so sharp it makes me cry to eat it. No luck on that thus far.

But when I'm jamming on the PS3, I find slices of cheese and some chocolate milk to be good "gamer fuel".

I'll have to try out your barnyard cheese, tho. Sounds delightfully repulsive!
