Default washed out picture while watching BD

i am using a Vista Home Premium HTPC with an LG BD-ROM, an nVidia 9500 GT video card, and ArcSoft TotalMedia Threatre to watch BD's, displayed on a panasonic plasma HDTV connected with a dvi to hdmi cable.
The video looks very washed out and gray while warching DVD's or BD's.
i have updated all of the drivers as well as running the latest TMT version.
the blacks on the desktop, as well as the BD menus, other software, etc. are very black, as soon as the movie starts everything looks gray.
Any Thoughts?

Switch the display to *TV Only*, does that make it better?
