No one blind buy this.

I'm a huge Nicolas Cage fan; I mean...I enjoy all these movies: Gone in 60 Seconds, Kick-Ass, Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Amos and Andrew (w/ Samuel L.), Adaptation, The Rock, Con Air, National Treasure 1 and 2, and Bad Lieutenant. Even some others were okay.

Unfortunately, Season of the Witch goes straight into the garbage pile with The Wicker Man. He did this to pull in the paycheck to get himself out of financial trouble. I actually think Nic did a good job in this film, but it's just straight up terrible as a script, and some of the graphics, and in the end, not his strong suit. Ron Perlman also was good in this one.

You know, I agree with you on this most likely having a lame script. The premise sounds interesting because there's rarely been any big budget attempts on the black plague, well Black Death is due in May here in the US. I wonder what the original film was like before they had to do reshoots and delay the film a year.

This was one of the original trailers that they put out back in 2009. Yeah, keep that in mind that the film didn't come out until 2011.

+1

I am a huge fan of his work. He was done some really bad movies . Like this one. If I find it for $5 some day then I would buy it.

I know, when i first heard the title of the film i thought "have the guys at Platinum Dunes got a fourth horror remake lined up from that old John Carpenter flick?" Haven't seen this film actually, and don't want to, as i'm more intruiged by why Nick Cage is making so many crappy movies. He's in financial trouble, if i remember correctly...

Season of the Witch:
film: 2.5/5
video: 4.5/5
audio: 4.5/5
extras: 2.5/5
overall: 2.5/5

Sucker Punch:
film: 2/5
video: 4.5/5
audio: 5/5
extras: 3.5/5
overall: 4/5

That leaves me ... WTF?

Granted we have different reviewers, but doesn't that invalidate any sense in having a numerical representation in the first place? What is the point?

We might as well only rate Audio and Video levels, based on facts (DNR use, banding, artefacts, color saturation, etc.) at this point, because it becomes obvious that the overall rating means nothing.

My 2 cents

It's def not a numerical calculation (the overall score).

If you calc the Overall score out based upon the other scores:

SotW would get a 3.5/5
Suckerpunch would get a 3.75/5

So, I take it the overall score is just their overall impression of the movie / package as a whole.

I mildly enjoyed "Season of the Witch." The pacing could have been ratcheted up a bit, as there were a few parts that were as dull as dirt. However, I thought there were some really entertaining action sequences in the movie, and I really enjoyed the twist at the end. Plus, Ron Pearlman just kicked all sorts of ass in this movie.

There was a TON of room for improvement in the movie, but I'm going to file this one under the "guilty pleasures" category. It's certainly a lot better than the 6% it gets on Rotten Tomatoes.

Some of the worst green screen work I've seen in a movie, in a long time.

Seriously, if Ugly Betty has better green screen work than your movie, then you're f**ked.

No, it doesn't make it look like 300, it looks like cheap shit.

No matter what, the Overall score shouldn't be a 2.5. The same goes for his review of The Adjustment Bureau, where he only gave that a 3.

As for Sucker Punch, it it was an average, it could still work out to a 4 if he rounded up since their ratings scale doesn't factor in quarter points.

Yes, only a 3. It doesn't matter to me since I happily blind bought it yesterday, but it has to be either a mistake or very harsh rounding down.

Browsing through some of his past reviews, he seemed to pretty much have the Overall score be an average, but this review and the one for The Adjustment Bureau really stick out. In the end, it only matters so much what the Overall score is though.

I feel bad for Nicolas Cage. I like the guy, but haven't enjoyed anything from him since The Weather Man.

Overall, it wasn't too bad. Had me guessing if the girl was truly a witch or not. I could put myself into Nicolas Cage's character's feet and wonder what was real or not. Could've been better though. I'd give it a 6/10.

I blind bought this because I'm a sucker...punch (lol, couldn't resist) for a Crusades-era film, even if the overall plot is about the wiccan thing.

Also bought Black Death too.

Wow, I actually liked this movie. Yes, it had its predictable moments but it was decent and I will pick this one up once the price drops a little more into the under $15 dollar range.
