Default Stellar Blade 2

Quote:
Stellar Blade team Shift Up has officially confirmed it now has a sequel to the PS5 fan-favourite in the works, revealed in an investors' presentation.

On one of the slides in a May 2025 powerpoint, it is shared the studio is working on Nikke, Stellar Blade, and something called Project Witches through until 2027. Under the Stellar Blade tab, it has "platform expansion" and a "sequel" listed. The former could mean Stellar Blade releasing on new consoles — like Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, in addition to the imminent PC version — while the latter is, of course, a full follow-up to Eve's excellent debut.

Given the success of the first game, a sequel was expected. What's surprising, however, is Shift Up plans to have it out before 2027. The original is just over a year old at this point, so to have a follow-up released within the next two years would be impressive given current development cycles. A Complete Edition, which bundles together all current content with additional Outfits and boss fights, is coming to PS5 and PC on 11th June.
Of course, release plans can shift all the time, so maybe don't lock Stellar Blade 2 in for next year just yet — there could always be a delay.

I still have to finish Stellar Blade and get back to it. It's an interesting game.
I like Eve and the monster designs, great graphics for the environments and some fun moments of gameplay.

For a sequel, how about randomly placed enemies so they're not in the same exact spot every single time they're reset. That would be a lot more fun and unpredictable. Games are too predictable most times.

Glad the game did well. Just hope the developer doesn't let all the riches and success get out of hand like with CDProjeckt Red fumbling the ball with the December 2020 Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4...

The unofficial name of the game is "Stellar Yams".

The monster designs could easily fit into a Silent Hill game. Which is really cool to see in this one. I guess Eve can live for thousands of years, as an android.

They should have more hair styles for Eve in Stellar Blade 2 so she can wear her hair down instead of mostly just the pony tail styles. Most games don't attempt it as long hair flies all over the place in odd ways.

More customization options would be great. I bet we will see some mods to fix (among other things) this when Stellar Blade hits PC in a few weeks.

The devs said, back before the NIER DLC for Stellar Blade, that the sequel was to feature more hairstyles for EVE that would not require the ponytail (of either length).

I trust them to manage their resources and give hairstyles but hair is one of the most resource draining things to get right. Dragon Age Veilguard had that as a big performance hit too. Hopefully they balance it well and by the time a sequel launches, it will probably be close to a cross gen period.

Speaking in an interview with ThisIsGame (via MP1st), Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-hyung explained the studio put all of its resources into the recently released PC version of the game, so work on the sequel is currently still in the "deep R&D" (research and development) phase.
He then continues: "Releasing it in 2027 would be fantastic, but with only three years left, all I can say is that we’ll try our best. What I can promise, though, is that it will be a great game."

Elsewhere in the interview, it's confirmed that a piece of DLC for the original game has been turned into a piece of Stellar Blade 2. The scope for the expansion "grew larger than expected", so Shift Up adapted it for a "full sequel. However, a lot has changed since then."

For the follow-up, the team is also looking to create a "much richer and more complete narrative". Agreeing the original's story was "weak", it's said that creating cutscenes became a difficult task. "As a result, we had no choice but to cut back on cutscenes that supplemented the world-building and character narratives, excluding the main plot, for efficiency’s sake. That was the only way we could finish the game."

With a sequel in the works, Shift Up has the potential to turn the Stellar Blade IP into a successful franchise, with the first game now having sold over three million copies following the recent PC port. It sold one million units in just three days and has quickly become Sony's most popular single player launch on Steam.
