The devs said, back before the NIER DLC for Stellar Blade, that the sequel was to feature more hairstyles for EVE that would not require the ponytail (of either length).

I trust them to manage their resources and give hairstyles but hair is one of the most resource draining things to get right. Dragon Age Veilguard had that as a big performance hit too. Hopefully they balance it well and by the time a sequel launches, it will probably be close to a cross gen period.
