Default 16GB iPhones/32 GB iPod Touch Official!

Both are 500$.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/05/o...one-available/

Quote:
Out of the rumor mill comes the 16GB iPhone, now official. Ever since the 16GB iPod touch was announced in September, we all knew it was just a matter of time until Apple could bung the same NAND capacity into their chubbier iPhone. The surprise is a new 32GB iPod touch for the same $499. No other changes and certainly not 3G. Both are available immediately.

Update: We just spoke with Apple, who told us that by available immediately, that means both US and international customers. They should start making their way to stores over the next couple of days, too, so call ahead to check stock if you're buying offline. Also, Cupertino had no comment on whether there were any other under-the-hood hardware changes in these new models.

Take that $499 and get an 80 gig PS3. Better value. If they take the 8gig itouch and bring it down to $199-$250 that would be sweet. I can see that happening by the end of this year.

Given the choice between my $600 iPhone or my $600 PS3 I would choose the phone hands down. I use it daily for phone and iPod use. I freakin' love the phone.

It is also nice to be able to search the web wherever I want as many sites are blocked at work.

I'd consider it if I didn't have to sign another two year contract to get the new 16gb phone. I'll wait for a more worthwhile upgrade. Like 3g and real GPS.

I love my iphone too. It comes in handy so many times in so many random situations. I mean, it's a pocket sized mac/phone!

I'm really tempted to pickup the ipod. I have about $125 in Best Buy X-Mas cash to burn. I'd get the phone, but I still have 2 years on my Verizon contract. by then, even better phones should be out. 32GB touch would be very nice though.

The Touch is pretty cool, but I think that the 160 GB iPod Classic is a better value.

My phone has gps with a 5MP camera and it is a 3g phone with 8GB internal memory. N95 look it up I've had it for about 2 months now, I have a couple of friends that have the iphone and just about every one of them like my cell better.

I agree, but if I only wanted the touch for music and didn't have the free cash, I wouldn't even be contemplating. Email and wi-fi are nice enhancements as well. Contemplating, but very enticing.

That Nokia is a nice phone for sure. More pricey than the iPhone but offers more features.

The iPhone is all about appearance and interface IMO.

More memory for the dollar for sure. I've got the 80 gb classic that I have my entire collection on as well as a backup medium for my PC. The 8gb iPhone I use daily and has my new/favorite music on it as well as TV shows. The iPhone also replaced my Palm T3.

Which it usually loses with me, when I start looking at similarly priced Ericksons .

I saw the 8gig Itouch for $279 at best buy. Now that is getting tempting.

That is probably the older version without the January update. The update which adds Mail, etc. is $20 to download or add $20 with the software preinstalled.

For people that have always ripped entire albums and have over 650 of them (like myself) only larger sized hard drive based MP3 players make sense. That's why I love my 80GB Zune. While I do think that the iTouch is nice looking cosmetically, I don't think that even at 32GB it provides enough storage to satisfy my need or justify it's steep price. Or course that's a very subjective statement.

Just gotta say that I love my iPhone as well. I've used phones from just about every manufacturer and the iPhone wins with me hands down. I originally had my eyes on the Sony Ericsson k790 (the Bond phone), but the iPhone has killed my interest in it. Two things I always have my eye on are phones and sunglasses . . . very hard to satisfy me in these areas. But, I've got my Oakley Juliets and my iPhone, and I haven't looked into an alternative for either since.

GPS would be nice, but Google maps works great. Could they add GPS via a software update?

No, I believe you need a transmitter/receiver chip inside the unit in order for it to be considered a GPS.
My girlfriend and her Iphone are inseparable as well, and she is pissed as hell since I told her the 16GB version just came out, especially since she's only had it for about a month. Now she's trying to find ways to sell her current one and get the 16GB one.
