Just gotta say that I love my iPhone as well. I've used phones from just about every manufacturer and the iPhone wins with me hands down. I originally had my eyes on the Sony Ericsson k790 (the Bond phone), but the iPhone has killed my interest in it. Two things I always have my eye on are phones and sunglasses . . . very hard to satisfy me in these areas. But, I've got my Oakley Juliets and my iPhone, and I haven't looked into an alternative for either since.

GPS would be nice, but Google maps works great. Could they add GPS via a software update?

No, I believe you need a transmitter/receiver chip inside the unit in order for it to be considered a GPS.
My girlfriend and her Iphone are inseparable as well, and she is pissed as hell since I told her the 16GB version just came out, especially since she's only had it for about a month. Now she's trying to find ways to sell her current one and get the 16GB one.

I'll go for an iPhone when:
  1. It's got a user replaceable battery.
  2. It's seriously capable of replacing a "classic" iPod in terms of storage.
  3. It's capable of modem tethering.
  4. It's offered by T-Mobile.

Chances are, I'll be sticking with my 80GB iPod classic, and BlackBerry for awhile.

But you don't realize that its much more than just a nifty phone. You're actually buying a micro computer. Its worth every penny. Compare it to stuff like Verizon's horrible wannabe iPhone. The UI is HORRIBLE.

Don't know where you live, but my AT&T service is FAR better in more places than T-Mobile. I worked for T-Mobile for a year and a half and they always boast about their coverage, but there were tons of places where, according to their personal coverage check, I should have had adequate coverage but didn't. Plus, their technology is about two years behind everybody else's.

Its a bummer you can't buy the phone offline here in the UK, you HAVE to get an 18 month contract with it.

Well, unless you jailbreak it you have to get a 2 year contract here. I do have a $100 apple credit from my iPhone that I could use to get the 16gb version. hmm, decisions, decisions.
