Sony Pictures Angry Birds AKA The Angry Birds Movie 3D Blu-ray (2016) [Region Free]

Just came back from 'Angry Birds' 3D. Pretty much medium 3D throughout; producers/director could've done great pop-outs w/this one, but alas, no. Movie was okay, maybe a B-, enjoyable enough, but pretty much forgettable.

However, the trailer for 'The Secret Life Of Pets' looked awesome in 3D. It stood out among 5 3D trailers shown.

Just finished watching a flat version of this and I actually thought it was pretty damn funny. I am very much looking forward to seeing this on 3D Blu!

I notice the image on the Amazon UK listing no longer shows the blu ray as featuring 3D (it was on the artwork last week) so I've cancelled my pre-order...

...I can see it back again now, the listing for the 2D version is almost identical, which must have gotten me confused.

Probably too early... Amazon U.S. just has standard movie poster, but dedicated entry for 3D version.

The UK page shows a Blu-ray 3D picture of the case-cover.

Edit:
Amazon.com did the same thing for Warcraft, stating Blu-ray and only showing the 3D on the picture cover.

Is the order magically going to move to the 4K version?

I got the notice, too, but still have the "Currently Unavailable" listing in "My Orders"...

Default How do 3D fans feel about the Angry Birds 3D/4K situation?

I just noticed that Sony will be doing a 3D/4K combo pack for Angry Birds.

I have an 8-year old, so for me this a mandatory purchase.

The price is in the upper $20's (for now) so the Day One price might not be out of line (yet).

I guess what bothers me is that this release is in a black 4K box and will count as a 4K sale.

I'm not really interested in 4K and don't have a 4K player, I'd rather support 3D with my purchases.

Are you guys glad to see this kind of combo or do you see it as a marketing ploy to boost 4K sales?

I'm okay with this. Since 4K UHD doesn't have a 3D spec, and I'll be converting to UHD sometime in the future, at least I get both and don't have to double dip later. I wish all 3D releases were like this, because it seems as if 3D BD won't be supported too much longer.

Of course it's a ploy to bump UHD sales (which are currently well below 3D sales). Sony is doing this with GHOSTBUSTERS also. While I feel it is better than forcing some buyers into an either/or decision, there's little doubt that they will not count them as 3D sales. That's why some TV mfgrs dropped 3D from sets (despite strong sales)..it's ALL about pushing 4K.,,from ads/reviews making 4K seem better than the very marginal difference over good 1080p that it is and minimizing/hiding 3D from consumers. (Not to mention preventing them from getting a 3D-capable set.) The other thing that will probably be lost for some titles are the lenticular slip-covers.

I think it is fantastic! Hope this becomes the norm. It will be great to have a 4K version to show to friends and family who do not care for 3D.

Your kidding, right? 3D releases are coming at us more than ever before. And not just the big titles...older titles like JAWS 3D, IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE 3D, MISS SADIE THOMPSON and numerous others are being released. Even the crowd-funding campaign for the restoration of SEPTEMBER STORM is reaching its goal faster than even its backers expected. Heck, James Cameron just spent a year and a half converting TERMINATOR 2 into 3D! (I'd have preferred THE ABYSS myself.) Many people will probably buy a 4K version of that instead of what Cameron's people spent so much time on, but I always go for the filmmaker's intent and that is 3D in this case.

That does not mean that there isn't a concentrated effort by the industry to do everything they possibly can to kill 3D. But as long as we keep buying discs, they'll keep making them.

Absolutely no problem with it. In fact, I love it.
The price difference is minimal and I have the option of watching 2D, 3D or 4K without spending a bomb.

I wish more studios do this. I like the movie but I wasn't too keen on getting 3D, but the price for this super combo is something worth supporting.

I'm inclined to agree with you, unfortunately Samsung started all this 3D vs. 4K trouble by launching UHD players and immediately removing 3D from their new TVs.

I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that douchebag move by Samsung.

VERY much a douchebag move...particularly since the players also offer 3D!
Needless to say, I won't be buying Samsung products going forward.

I'd feel better about these types of combos if they had been the standard from the beginning and had 4K + 3D on the top of the case.

That would have showed respect for 3D and put 3D fans at ease. Unlike what actually happened...

As it is, it looks like The Industry wanted to kill 3D ASAP and having failed to do that is now wanting to co-opt 3D sales to shore up thier UHD sales.

I worry that buying this product will send the wrong message (I have no interest in 4K and prefer 3D).

You can always import the UK editions, 3D with no 4K...
