SPLIT IMAGE (1982) - Coming from KINO - Karen Allen, James Woods, Peter Fonda, Michael O'Keefe, Brian Dennehy, Elizabeth Ashley etc

Directed by Ted Kotcheff (First Blood!)

I thought this largely unseen film about the danger of 'cults' deserved it's own thread. I love that KINO are releasing this gem in January on bluray.

Love the film!

I was very excited to see it listed for pre-order on Kino's site for Jan. 9. I hope that date stays.

I've loved this film since the early 80s. James Woods completely steals the film.

Great performances by the entire cast. It's vaguely similar to another deprogramming drama, TICKET TO HEAVEN. However, SPLIT IMAGE takes the story a bit farther than TICKET, showing that temptations may remain even after someone appears to have been deprogrammed.

I know it's on the January list, but has Kino made an official announcement which displays the cover art and lists any supplemental features? I don't recall seeing such an announcement.

No I don't think so. I think there's just a commentary and the trailer listed as extras on the Kino website. Hopefully they'll add more.

If possible, I would get rid of the ' next to split and image in the thread title as that prevents those words from showing up in a site search. (Edit>Go Advanced)

I remember this being released around the same time as a Canadian film called Ticket to Heaven in the early 1980s.

I do think Split Image is the better of the two.

It’s a terrific movie that addresses cults which was an issue at the time but even more relevant today.

Watched it again since its first release and it holds up very nicely. Outstanding performances across the board and still as creepy as hell.

I totally agree with this - this movie holds up very well and definitely has a 'sinister and creepy' undertone to it. Very effective.
