USA Prospect (2018) - Pedro Pascal sci-fi movie

Just saw this fantastic small indie sci-fi movie. Slow, bleak but incredbily well crafted and acted. Felt like Alien at some points (production design) but on a small set and much more intimate. You can almost call this a scifi western. Easily in my top 10 of the year!

This film's been on my radar, so I'm happy to see it getting a blu-ray release (even it is a BD-r, which seems to be the route Gunpowder & Sky is going with all of their releases).

Didn't realize this was coming so soon, thanks for the tip. Shame if it's a BD-R but I love sci-fi and the trailer looked great. Will get.

Just saw this also. It’s nothing much like “Alien” overall, imho - that may be a tad misleading for readers of this thread. But it is however, very original, well acted, and has a creative plot with some surprises.
The sense of other-worldliness is solid - rich in detail, very “lived-in”. Worn-out nomads in used, lawless universe. In that regard in particular, I found this film remarkable.

It is not flawless, but if you are looking for original sci-fi, this is definitely one to try.
I will want to watch it again, so will buy to keep. It’s wonderful that films like this are being made.

Also, that cover/poster for the film is superb and relates the clunky retro-future feel of the technology in this film. Its a future, as would have been dreamed in the 80s (there are certainly no touch screens or holograms here). In that regard specifically, I do see a thread connecting it to space films like Alien, Moon etc. But the suspense and tone here is very different.

Prospect is one of my favorite films released in 2018 and probably one of my favorite sci fi films of the last 10-20 years. Sophie Thatcher and Pedro Pascal are both excellent in this. I love the world that the filmmakers create in this film and am definitely looking forward to their next project. I was fortunate enough to catch this twice on the big screen and already have the blu-ray on pre-order. Sucks it's a BD-R but I'm just glad this film is getting a physical release and isn't just relegated to a streaming/digital only release.

Since Firefly I didn't see such interesting mash of genres... watched it yesterday and though it has some pacing issues, it's really a great little indie sci-fi that "could".

A MUST see if you loved Firefly because it has that distinct feeling of something else, well-defined characters, only don't expect that much humor... the universe in Prospect is bleak to the point of survival-at-all-cost.

I was mainly talking about the production design. The world felt "used" much like it felt in Alien. But the pacing also matched Alien. It's a different film, yeah sure... But the was a lot that reminded me of Alien

Yeah Amazon have been delaying (or even canceling) MOD releases a lot lately. God knows why. I switched to another store.

Curious abou the packaging and disc though, anyone got this already and want to share pics?

Just opened my copy that came in from Amazon and i'm not totally sure if I got a legit disc. Are Gunpowder and Sky movies typically BD-R? My copy of Summer of 84 is the same way. Both from Amazon.

... this is the whole reason I canceled my preorder, as I said earlier in the thread... will probably be importing from Scandinavia instead
Thanks for clearing that up!

Yes, they are BD-r discs. This was discussed earlier in this very thread.

Yeah, I realize that now. Missed it in the brief panic over the BD-Rs. Thanks for the reply and info.

The UK is also getting a release in April if you are region free. Most likely will not be a BD-R release in the UK. I will also be getting the UK release and likely sell my US BD-R COPY.

Finally received my copy today. Looking forward to watching this. It was a total blind buy. Cover sold me!
I quickly swapped out that relic of a BD case. I didn’t think they still made those big bubbas any more.

Wow! What a gem of a film! For me, this is what collecting is all about. Well made, small budget films that just knock it out of the park.
A very interesting story. Characters you want to know about. Phenomenal practical effects. Just the little things like filming dust and using it as a filter to show the moon’s environment.
Pedro Pascal, as he is in most everything he does, was great in this.
