Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson to Star in Adventure Movie ‘Ghosted’ for Apple

Dexter Fletcher is set to direct the feature to be made by Skydance.



It’s an Avengers-style reunion as Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, known for playing Captain America and Black Widow, respectively, are teaming up for Ghosted, an adventure movie project set up at Apple.

Dexter Fletcher, the helmer behind Rocketman, is set to direct the project, which will be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the scribes behind Deadpool and Zombieland.

Evans will produce the project along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger of Skydance, the company that made The Tomorrow War for Amazon. Reese and Werinick will also produce.

Details are behind kept under the white sheet but the project is being described as a high-concept romantic action adventure in the vein of Romancing the Stone, the 1984 adventure movie that starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

There is no pricetag on the project but it’s bound to be pricey. But it’s also part of Apple’s aggressive plan to attract top talent for its growing feature division. The streamer is currently in production on Emancipation, a slave drama starring Will Smith, and earlier this year filmed Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s period thriller that stars Leonardo DiCaprio.

For Johansson, this is the second deal she has made since filing her lawsuit against Disney over alleged contract breaches with the Disney+ release of Black Widow. The first was coming on board the new Wes Anderson movie, which is now shooting in Spain.

Evans scored strong notices for his legal drama, Defending Jacob, which he made for Apple, and recently wrapped The Gray Man, an action thriller with Ryan Gosling that reunited him with his Avengers filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo.

Evans is repped by CAA, 3 Arts and attorney Jason Sloane. Johansson is repped by CAA and Morris Yorn.

Comparison to Romancing The Stone?

I thought Sandra Bullock was already doing a Romancing the Stone rip-off. At least the studios are figuring out what I've been saying for a while, that a romantic action-adventure is a highly underutilized genre that could make some good money. The MCU has blown off the chance to make a movie like that several times now, such as with Ant-Man and the Wasp where a romance angle just isn't developed. So few of this genre of movies have been done that they actually have to go back to 1984 to come up with a comparison.

Could be nice. Cinematography looks surprisingly good, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are solid writers, Dexter Fletcher is a talented director, and Evans and De Armas seem to have chemistry and fun in their roles.

I'll keep my expectations in check, though, as it's a streaming movie.

Bummer can't dee it in theaters and relegated to streaming. Nut as people been saying here. Streaming is the future

Does seem like a better fit for the premise to me, I think the problem with Johansson now is that the reveal of her as a spy really would not be that surprising, not only has she played loads of action leads but generally you'd associate her with playing weightier roles now than "hot girl" ones.

Although they need to hire the James Bond costume designer. The dress she wore in the action scene in that JB movie fitted perfectly, the hot dress in this one looks a couple of sizes too big for her.

I would have thought that the rush to streaming of 2020-22 had run its course. Studios HAVE to know they're throwing money away by doing it by this point.
