Default Using my HTIB Speakers with Onkyo 605???

I am presently using the HTIB from signature for sound from my PS3 and Cable Box. Here is the link to it if needed:

Sony HT-DDW790 HTS

http://reviews.cnet.com/audio-shelf-...-32401496.html

This was great for a budget HTIB setup with 5.1 Sound. Now, I am planning on upgrading to the Onkyo 605 receiver. I would like to short term, use the present speakers with the HTIB with the new reciver but I have questions:

1. The Onkyo uses Banana plugs, the HTIB has bare wire from the speakers and sub to the receiver. How do I convert the bare wire into a banana plug? Links, How to guide, pricing on plugs, etc would be greatly appreciated.

2. If and when I buy a standalone BD player like the Panasonic dmp-bd30k which bitstreams the DTS-MA and True HD to the receiver for decoding, what kind of sound improvement will I notice over my present setup if I am still using the HTIB speakers.

3. Overall I am wondering is it worth it to upgrade my receiver if I am not going to upgrade my speakers short term (in the next 6 months).

Thanks.

i have read that using htib speakers with a reciever such as the onkyo 605 will harm the receiver because of the low ohm rating on htib speakers. The receiver will have to do so much work it could over heat etc. i asked the same question a week or so ago.

Assuming this is correct and I cannot use my HTIB speakers, perhaps I should qualify my first post with the best 3.1 setup, Front Left, center, Front Right, and a sub for under $1000. I know there is another post similar to this for a whole setup under a $1000 here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hlight=%241000

but this person wanted 5.1 or 7.1 sound. This setup will eventually go in my bedroom so it does not have to be too high end and hence I am a little flexible on price as I can go a little higher to get a decent 5.1 setup. I don't crank the volume up too loud in my bedroom anyway.

Look into Paradigm's. Particularly the Atom Monitors or the Mini Monitors. The Atom's retail for under $300/pair and they are praised for their amazing sound. You can read reviews online. Paradigm makes some amazing speakers that aren't outrageously priced. I've heard the Atom Monitors and they're amazing.

Default onkyo 605 should be 8ohm

The speaker that were included in the HTIB from Onkyo should all be 8 ohm wich is the standard amoung most recievers. If you really want to hear a difference replace the speakers first and the reciever later. That reciever has a good amound of power and performance that the speakers might be limiting you to. I used to sell speakers and we would tell people that the amount spent should be 50-75% on speakers and rest on reciever.
A good reciever and so-so speakers gives only the sound that can come from the speaker. A so-so reciever and good speakers will give a better performance. An example is Klipsch claims that you can hear their speakers with as little as 10 watts of power driving one of their towers that can handle 200 watts.
Also the Onkyo is a high current reciever and constantly puts out good power. One question is why get rid of the onkyo?
Look into new speakers and keeping the reciever for now, you might be happy.

Default forget my last comment

I misunderstood. You want to get the Onkyo. Just check the speakers on the sony but most likely they are 6ohm. I would not recommend hooking those speakers up to an Onkyo.

How I hate when things like this are an issue... simply because I don't understand it.. but I have the same situation and am going to upgrade from my Sony HTIB speakers in a couple months... But I have the onkyo 605 and if there is truly a problem with the hookup to these sat speakers please .. someone send me to a link that explains the issues / problems I might be experiencing sooner or later..
