Doubt they would give up hopes a on it. They know it will sell, just not on HD DVD.

Toshiba had been the one paying for the re-mastering/encoding of Star Trek: TOS, which was part of their exclusive deal with Paramount. Also part of the exclusive deal is that Paramount must use AVC in the encoding of the Star Trek Series, more specifically they must use Toshiba’s AVC encoder.

We think this was a way Toshiba could try to push their AVC encoder, which they had invested lots of money in.Toshiba has had a hard time getting studios to purchase their AVC encoder, since VC-1 is so popular with studios on both sides of the format war. A good example of this is Warner, who mandates VC-1 on all it’s discs."

That's a good point BDA might want to remember, if they're going to play post-surrender concession with Toshiba:
Toshiba wants to get out of this with some dignity of future income, and we want Blu disks with AVC (no matter how much Warner's marketing persuades us we "like" VC-1)...
Hate to be so sacrilegious as to suggest actually doing something nice and peaceful with Toshiba, but seems like there's one obvious way to negotiate the patent settlement treaties.

Season one was being worked on for blu and there was talk that season two would be coming to blu someday.

I think they are coming. They spent way to much money to re-do those masters to just let it go.

I'd buy all three seasons on blu, but not for the price that they were asking for the HD-DVD version....of course when it comes to blu-ray, it won't be a combo disc, so that'll cut down on pricing as well.

The prices they were asking for were crazy.

I thought HBO liked to overprice their season discs, but damn ~200 I would expect the whole damn series

I am a big Star Trek fan. In fact, I sold my Original Series DVD set before the Paramount defection, thinking I was going to upgrade to Blu. However, $200 a season is just crazy.

Expect the eventual Blu version to be much cheaper
