Default Rumours - 80GB discontinued? Price drop? New SKU?

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=24562

Looks like Best Buy will stop selling the 80 gig and only sell the 40 gig. What do you guys think?

Alan

Well from the link, it means that Best Buy isn't carrying the 80gb.

Everything else, is extrapolation.

Now Best Buy online is showing it as being sold out online and not available for in store pickup.

It's still available at GameStop.com and at many local GameStop stores.

That could just be the Motostorm Limited Edition Bundle. We all knew that one wouldnt last forever since it says Limited Edition right on the box. My Best Buy already carries an unbundled 80gb PS3 with no game. They could be dropping the price of the 40gb to $299 and the unbundled 80gb to $399

The date that the 80GB SKU is disappearing from Best Buy's computers is 1/28, the same day of the rumored 40GB price drop.

It adds fuel to the $299 fire.

Default just thinking about recent ps3 news

alright
so after seeing this
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/24/b...-the-80gb-ps3/

and recent 299 ps3 romours

(i cant believe im saying this) but i think it mite be possiable that 2 things can happen the new white ps3 comes into play in north america it mite come in at 299 while the current 40 gig mite become a bundle with an extra controller and game and selling at current price point.

or current 40 gigs go into the 299 price range and the white one gains a controller and game so its has 2 controllers and a game or two and stay at 399.
of course more likely for the 80 gig to stay and everything will say the same but just will a white 40 gig

Default Price Cut Imminent?

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=624852

Apparently, some stores are already dropping the price, just coincidence, or does this give credence to that slick deals rumor? (Rhetorical question, I have no idea, just putting that out there.) If this is the case... those ignorant analysts will be proven wrong once again. Honestly, do they ever do any research, or are they too busy playing with their Wiis?

There have been rumors over the last few days, plus the elimination of the 80GB model. Nothing official though. I guess we'll see on Monday.

More price cuts? Sweet. Expand to those who are wary of getting into Blu or those HD-DVDers who need to hop ship already.

Default Sony needs to make their move regarding the 80gb ps3

Is it just me or does Sony need to come out and say what their plans are for taking out the 80gb SKU? It's starting to sound bad when all these sites' headlines read "________ to stop selling 80GB PS3 as well?" Some might take that like Sony's having hard times.

I've rarely seen Sony pre-announce plans or specs on upcoming gear. When I have, they end up pulling the stuff anyway, like that 70" SXRD5. *sob*

Sony won't jeopardize their retail environment by announcing a new PS3 before stock levels of the 80gig model's get down a lot more.I was Future shop (which is owned by BEST Buy here in Canada) yesterday and they had over 50 80Gig's in stock. So any announcements from them is a little premature.

I guess the 80GB aren't selling well in Canada.

They are nowhere to be found around here except at the 4 Gamestop stores in my city.
