Default Frogs (1972)

Kino Lorber
Release date: 08/20/24

NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian John Harrison
Audio Commentary by Writer/Producer/Director Bert I. Gordon
Interview with Actress Belinda Balaski
TV and Radio Spots
Theatrical Trailer
Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
Optional English Subtitles

"Today the pond…Tomorrow the world! A shocker reminiscent of Hitchcock’s The Birds, this amphibious horror flick is teeming with thousands of nasty-tempered creatures that are hopping mad—and murderous. Jumping with action, suspense, revenge and Southern Gothic charm, Frogs’ stars Ray Milland (The Thing with Two Heads), Sam Elliott (The Legacy) and Joan Van Ark (The Last Dinosaur) are constantly a lily pad away from croaking! Jason Crockett (Milland) is an aging, physically disabled millionaire who invites his family to his island estate for his birthday party. The old man is more than crotchety…he’s crazy! Hating nature, Crockett poisons anything that crawls on his property. But on the night of his shindig, it’s nature’s payback time, and thousands of frogs whip up every bug and slimy thing into a toxic frenzy until the entire environment goes environ-mental. Directed by George McCowan (H.G. Wells’ The Shape of Things to Come)."

There's already a Shout disc from 2015 that might be OOP, I'm not totally sure. Kino is releasing a special edition in a few months with an additional commentary track.

I don't usually watch PG horror but the cover art is awesome. Anyone seen this and have some opinions on the film?

Frogs is pretty tame, its pretty infamous in my household. The poster art for this film has always outshone the movie itself. Its very pg, good to scare 5 yos with

I enjoy this one. It's got a young, hunky Sam Elliot, and that's worth the purchase alone. I have the SF double feature and seem to recall it having some print damage. I might pick it up again if Kino handles the damage better, so hopefully there'll be some reviews soon. DiabolikDVD has their copies in.

Both Frogs, and Food of the Gods, were regularly on TV when I was a kid; and hold some nostalgia for me. I wasn’t focused on collecting when SF released their double feature, so these new Kino releases works out perfectly for me. Can’t wait to pop them in next week!

The new Kino Lorber release seems very good, especially because of the extra features. "Frogs" is a famous movie with a spooky Southern Gothic feeling. If you like old-style horror, maybe this one is interesting. The cover art looks very nice too!
