Default Blu-Ray Upconverting and 1080 -i vs. -p question...

After coming perilously close to going HD-DVD last year, I will obviously be taking the HD plunge in the Blu-Ray waters; before I do, I want to make sure that what I think I know is correct:

I do not have HDMI capability with my gear, nor am I likely to anytime soon (it's all a few years old, but of very solid quality)... therefore, I will be using the component inputs into my Mitsubishi RPTV, and want to make sure I have this correct:

My Mits does not support 1080p, but does 1080i beautifully (via component inputs, obviously). A Blu-Ray player, playing Blu-Ray discs, will send 1080i through its component outputs. Am I correct so far?

Next, when upconverting standard definition DVDs, the best I can get through the component inputs is 480p.
Most of these assumptions are based on what I was informed about regarding HD-DVD, and I just want to be sure I know what to expect...
