Default Upconverting Question

Hi all,
Last week I gave in and bought "the deal" of the Sharp 42" LCD with their free Aquos BD player.

First of all--sweet moses BD is incredible...and it looks great on that TV.

Now, my concern...when I put in one of my *yawn* standard DVD's....I'm not very impressed with the upconversion. It seems like the BD player automatically fills the screen with the picture. I noticed that BD doesn't fill the whole screen, but preserves the aspect ratio. I've tried numerous ratios on SD and they all fill the screen...I fee like this is having a negative effect on the upconversion quality. It's like the whole picture is "zoomed in" to fit on the screen--but I've checked all the settings and can't seems to find one that says just play the standard dvd aspect ratio.

Any thoughts or help? Does anyone else have this setup with this issue?

(note: I tried searching the forums and I couldn't find this particular issue.)

Thanks,
Ryan

EDIT: I found one! Hot Fuzz on SD still maintains the aspect ratio. But this still worries me because the upconvert on movies that "fill" the screen is disappointing compared to the Hot Fuzz upconvert.

It might be possible that the TV is doing it as well. The player may recognize the 4:3 aspect ratio, but the TV may be wanting to play it back at a 16:9 ratio. Check the TV settings to see what options are available there.

Read your manual. Your TV should have several different modes for this

Thanks.
I'm trying all the different settings for the view mode. But no luck, unless I wanted it to look crappier.

I mean, it's not horrible--it's just something I notice. But I'm also the biggest nerd of my group of friends...so I'm pretty sure nobody else watching movies is going to pick it out.
