Australia Studio Ghibli Collection (AU)

This thread is a dedicated Australian thread for discussion of the Madman releases of the Studio Ghibli Collection.

Current Studio Ghibli Blu-ray's available in Australia:

Re-released:
On November 28 2012, Arrietty received a Special Edition that now included both the U.S & U.K Dubs, as well as a number of extra features.

Coming Soon:
Madman will be releasing Ponyo as part of their Anniversary Limited Editions on the 23rd of May - That date will also see a re-release of the Totoro Limited Edition.

In July JBHIFI will be releasing exclusive steelbook editions of Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. (No covers or further details at this stage)

Limited Editions:
On December 18th 2013, Madman Entertainment released a 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of My Neighbor Totoro. This set featured the Blu-ray, DVD, Artbook, Post Cards and an exclusive Matchbox Diorama. It was presented in large art box packaging.

On December 10th 2014 Madman Entertainment released 3 more Limited Edition sets; Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle and The Wind Rises.

February 21st saw the release of 2 new limited editions that include art book, post cards and collectible coin.

March 7th 2018 saw the release of 2 new limited editions that include art book, post cards and collectible coin.

On April 15th 2015, The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki was released in a limited edition set.

One of the things that sets the Australian releases apart from anywhere else in the world is our reversible slicks, Thanks to Kolt, here are scans of what they look like:

Here are some full cover scans of the Madman Ghibli range, again these scans are courtesy of forum member Kolt!

Madman are also responsible for the release of Ghibli related books:

Nice thread champ. I admire the reversible covers but I have already got the UK set. I still have never watched a SG title!!!!! I have all of the available titles and will start soon!

Are these version the same as the UK releases?

Yes, the Aussie releases are typically identical to the UK releases. Same transfers.
However the Aussie release of Arrietty contains both the US and UK dub. Unique to that release I think.

Cool if you want both but personally, I think the US dub sounds awful and hate that they changed the ending to
[Show spoiler]a happier ending. The original ending was ambiguous and worked much better like that.
The UK dub just feels more appropriate and is better done.

Great news about Porco Rosso! Can't wait, as it's the first film I ever saw in the theatres, and the old DVD looks awful on a HDTV.

I don't have much time to scan them individually, but here's a shot of the reverse covers of the local Ghibli titles I have.

I'm not a fan of US anime dubbing in general, I'm curious how they changed the ending specifically? I only have the original release.

OK, it seems the JB exclusive is the date... JB will get Porco Rosso on the 10th, everyone else gets it on the 20th of November 2013. Not sure why, maybe a promotion?

Also added Arrietty Art Book Cover and Princess Mononoke Manga to the respective lists.

Nice thread! Subscribed.

I wonder if Only Yesterday has been dropped. We have no info of it being released on either the UK or AU.

I'm intrigued by the 27th Anniversary Totoro btw. I might double dip if it makes it to the UK

Excited to see Grave of the Fireflies being released.

Think you're missing this in your OP. Although, I'm not overly familiar with Studio Ghibli films.

That would be great, I was going to make mock-ups of the covers using the reverse slick.

It technically hasn't officially been announced, but it has appeared on their B2B site.

Any idea why Ponyo doesn't have it's own personal logo on the spine like the others? Is this the same for anyone else?

I can only assume it is because it was the first Ghibli title released here in Australia on Blu-ray and they hadn't finalized what they were going to do with the covers? Maybe?
