Default rear speakers dont work for music on ps3

when i play music on my ps3 my rear speakers are silent. I have my ps3 hooked up through my onkyo 605, does anyone have any idea why the rears are silent. They work just fine when i watch movies

seems to be a limitation of the PS3...why, I have no idea...but its been like this since day 1.

....what you have to do is un-check 5.1 and 7.1 PCM.

but you'll have to re-check them when you watch movie or play game.

Well, if you're listening to a stereo source (2.0 or 2.1) the PS3 should only be sending out that, so the rear speakers would not have any signal. Use special surround effects on the rcvr.

thats the problem, you cannot apply sound modes untill you uncheck 5.1 and 7.1 PCM.

its an odd limitation.

CDs are generally recorded in stereo. For surround misic try a Hybrid SACD ... you won't beleive the sound!

another issue could be that the Onkyo 605 does not post process PCM signals into 7.1 (so no rears), although it should be able to process 2.0 with dolby prologicIIx?

(but I still have this problem and I have a Pio Elite that can...its a PS3 limitation)
