It's true HDTVs consume more electricity, especially plasmas. Notice the heat comming off that thing? It's true even when you control for size. But the fact that HDTVs are generally larger than your old CRT compounds the situation.

I would post a link to a Wall Street Journal article and a Consumer Reports article but I am too lazy right now to look for it. They also talked about how Energy Star means something but not necessarily "less energy," I forgot. Somebody else could probably explain it better

well it really depends on the size, under about 25in lcd and plasma use less, above 25 goes to crt. check this out http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/303...mment_count=20

personally i love my projector 100in for only 250w

One of the biggest businesses around now is to charge environment fees based on dogma only of how you think the environment is affected or based on excessive electicity being used etc etc. Here in BC canada... gas prices went up by 10 cents a liter (40 cents a gallon) based on the politicians saying people who drive polluting vehicles should pay for it. Damn... global warming based on CO2 emissions is just a freaking theory... not to mention my contribution to global warming is a billionth of a percent compared to volcanos and everything else.
Anyways... we pay environment fees here for TV's and monitors and computers... sounds like a good excuse to raise that fee.
Unless people have lots of flat screen TV's now rather than just 1 CRT... then it can make sense. Our family has two 42" and larger.
