Default PS2 Games Not Working On PS3?!?!

When I first bought my PS3, everyone said that it would be 100% backwards compatable... so I buy a couple of cheap ps2 games and neither one of them work!! Does anyone know of a fix?... I have the 40g...

The 40 GB is not backwards compatible. Sorry.
The 80 BG is about 90% backwards compatible.
The 60GB is 100%.

20gb contains most ps2 parts (mostly full compatibility)
40gb does not contain any ps2 parts in it. (no compatibility)
60gb contains most ps2 parts (mostly full compatibility)
80gb contains less ps2 parts (Somewhat full compatibility)

consider it something like this for compatibility's
60or20>80>40

It sounds like you made a plunge you cannot take back
im sorry someone misinformed you.

The 40gig has NO backwards compatibility. Go *****slap anyone who told you it did. THEN go *****slap yourself for not being able to read the box.

That sucks man, but if you want backwards compatibility you need to get an 80 GB model. If a salesperson told you specifically that the 40 GB was backwards compatible, then I agree you should smack them. Unfortunately, here in the U.S. at least, where consumer electronic salespeople are no longer commissioned, this happens all too frequently. Just think about all the people who bought into HD-DuD after not being presented the facts by uninformed/ignorant employees.

I hope this doesn't ruin you on the PS3, though. It is truly a great console, and once you get your hands on some of the better PS3 games, you'll never think twice about backwards compatibility. Let us know if you have any more questions.

+1

It sounds more like a case of misinformation.

If you recently bought the 40GB PS3, try returning it and upgrading to the 80GB

It happens. People buy things without research.

Part of the blame is Sony though.

60g FTW!

IMO they should have never scrapped the BC in any of the models.

I wonder if the 40GB technically supports 80GB BC, if it does I expect some kind of emulator to download from Store before the end of production.

not likely. at least not for a while. I would suggest returning it and paying the extra 100 for the 80 GB

I guess it's not the actual hard drive size but the date of manufacture. I have the 60 gig and have never had any issues playing any of my PS2 games. Sony should correct that oddity though.

That's because the 60g has the PS2 hardware. It's the best model to get because of that.

The HD can easily be swapped for something larger too.

The 40gs don't and it was done so Sony could lower the price and be more competitive.

If you make a game console and people complaining about the price, wouldn't you wan't to drop the price down? How to do that? Remove one of the most expensive part, in this case, the backward capability.

I'm sure you would do the same as Sony.

Then others on message board will use your own quote above agains't you.

"IMO they should have never scrapped the BC in any of the models."

This time, "they" as in YOU.

Put yourself in Sony shoes, and you'll see that taking out the BC was not even an option. It's something they must do. Of course they can bring back BC later, but for now, they were corner to remove BC.

One thing that is strange to me is that only the ps2 compatibility is gone, but ps1 compatibility is still around. Why just make a ps3 that has no compatibility at all? You could sell this model even less then what the 40 gig costs you. Take out ps2 and leave ps1, doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I would think PS1 BC requires no hardware.

I don't think that's true, but I could be wrong. One thing that I don't get, unless my question has already been asked is, why take out ps2 compatibility only to replace it with a ps2 emulator?
