Default Dish Network finally adds Scifi and USA HD

Woohoo I have been wanting to watch Monk and Battlestar Galactica in HD for months now. I just wish they had upgraded a few weeks ago for the premier of Battlestar instead of waiting for week 3.

Comcast added those recently. SciFi HD is great, I think USA HD is good also, I think I watched some House reruns in HD one night.

Most other HD channels are crap, though, just the regular SD broadcast upscaled and stretched. There's nothing HD about it. But they keep adding new channels, TBS HD, AMC HD, History HD, ABC Family HD, A&E HD, Animal Planet HD, etc. It's a complete waste, just so Comcast and DirecTV / Dish Network can have their advertisement misinformation war over who has more "HD". Okay, that's just my mini-rant.

Yeah some of those HD channels are not up to snuff. TBS I think is by far the worst, they have family guy in hd, now I know I am no expert but I am almost sure that family guy has a native ratio of 4:3 so they stretch it out and upconvert whic is crap.
Other channels like TNT do a far better job, I love their weekend movie marathons they had lord of the rings the last 3 weeks and it is great to finally see lord of the rings in HD. I am not sure if it was really a hd transfer or if they just upconverted it but I am sure someone on this board can let me know.

Yeah, I don't like watching Seinfeld in FAT mode! Outside of ESPN, ESPN2, Big Ten, History, Discovery HD Theater, Nat Geo and occasionallly the Science Channel, I don't find much worth watching on the other HD channels (in the NFL offseason). I would like DirecTV to get Travel Channel in HD. My folks say they have it on Charter Cable.

Lovely... and Verizon keeps telling me they won't add additional HD channels to their FIOS service yet as it'll sacrifice HD picture quality (additional compression) to gain the bandwidth to support more HD channels. That may be true, but I want sci-fi in HD, dammit. I'm thisclose to switching to either Direc or Dish.

Doesn't Dish Network offer an HD only package for about $30?

i was gonna start this thread yesterday but was way too excited about FINALLY getting new hd. haha

cartoon network was slated to be added with cnn hd (which was already added a few days ago) but they took cn hd off the list and switch scifi and usa on.

for all the other dish network people..expect a lot more updates like this throughout may

New Jersey but am transferring to Corpus Christi in about 2 months. That's why I go with Dish instead of cable. I get to keep some continuity since I move around every 24 months or so. I was tempted to switch to direct TV lately though since they have so many more hd channels and it seems to be slightly cheaper it is tough though cause the dish pvr is better then tivo in my opinion and I have heard nothing but bad things about direct TVs pvr.

I was actually really worried about dish upgrading hd since I heard that the satellite they sent up a few months ago failed to reach a high enough orbit to work. Last I heard they were going to try to make it fly up higher but said they weren't sure if they would be able to maneuver it well enough and were also worried that it would shorten the life span of the satellite by years. Hopefully it all works out for them.

the satellite proved to be a complete failure and they already have plans to de-orbit it. according to dish tho, their national hd rollout was not affected by the loss of that satellite.

if you can..i'd wait until june to decide if you want to switch to directv from dish
