Default Beowulf on Blu-ray??

A powerful new hero is sought to answer the call of a terrorised kingdom, desperate to rid itself of the flesh ripping monster Grendel in the box office smash hit BEOWULF, released onto Blu-ray and DVD in an all-new Director's Cut and the Original Theatrical Cut on DVD only from Warner Home Video on 17 March 2008.

Beowulf is a complete re-imaging for the timeless legend. Infused with lust, betrayal and demons the groundbreaking film is a sweeping, adrenaline filled visual feast, beautiful and gruesome, violent and emotional, it's the ultimate epic adventure.

Academy-Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie lead a stellar cast that includes Ray Winstone as the title hero, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson and Crispin Glover.

The Director's Cut by Robert Zemeckis offers fans an entirely new experience in their homes on Blu-ray, HD and DVD. This all-new, never-before-seen version features more gore, blood and violence and presents the film the way it was intended. The Director's Cut of Beowulf will be accompanied by special features that explore the origins of the story and how such a magnificent feast was created.

Warners has distribution rights outside the US. Warners titles are usually region free so this can be imported from Amazon.UK

This movie is sooooooo good, it's not as good as Sweeney Todd but this film will look SO great in Blu... it'll make final fantasy movies look like poo.

if you liked the trailer, youll like the movie. if not, you wont.

that seems to be the most common scenario from how I've seen it play out.

i loved the trailer and loved the movie. i know a lot of people that did not though.

My 56 year old brother loved it. But of course he has every issue of Heavy Metal Magazine that was published.

The movie looks outstanding, but I thought they made it seem too comic bookey. The poster who said his brother, who has all the Heavy Metal issues, liked it I think is a good example of the direction in which this movie was taken.

I have an order with amazon.com/uk for this movie. The way things are going, I might be able to cancel my order and just pick it up here in the US. Either way I want this movie.

If you accept this version of Beowulf as pure entertainment and for the stunning visual CGI eye-candy worthy of your HD investment, then yes. I can't wait for it to come to Blu, so I pre-ordered it on HD-DVD.

I would hold off on purchasing it,

at this point, Paramount is going Blu any second now, this is a no-brainer for the fast track

I watched Beowulf in RealD digital 3D when it was in theaters last November. Obviously the cool 3D effects won't be there for the movie disc releases.

I thought it was a pretty decent movie. The movie has some pretty good action sequences. The music score from Alan Silvestri is memorable. And I thought the CGI artists did a better job at making the CG people look alive rather than like dead-eyed mannequins, which was a common complaint about The Polar Express.

Beowulf takes quite a few liberties with the original Celtic epic poem (which many of us has to study in high school).

As for Beowulf coming out on Blu-ray Disc, I'm kind of expecting that to happen pretty soon. For one thing, Paramount chose to encode Beowulf in MPEG-4 AVC (yes, that's what's on the HD-DVD). That leads me to believe they had some sort of plans in the works for a BD release.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter much to me which format I have it on, just so long as I can have it.

As partof their deal, Toshiba does all of Paramount's encodes

If you look all Paramount encodes since a few months after have been AVC, which Toshiba used on all their own HD DVD titles for Japan

I suppose this would explain why the Transformers bluray version probably looks better.

Saw this movie in Digital 3D. It was spectactular. I will be getting this when it comes out on Blu-ray. However, I am not sure how it will compare to the 3D.

It's available here, I've been thinking of getting it so I can go frame by frame on all of Angelina Jolies naked scenes.

It's a really awesome movie. To me at least. I saw it in 3D which made it even cooler.
