I just purchased a Yamaha VX 663 and I am running it with a Pannasonic BD-30 BD. When it decodes DTS MA it only brings up 5.1 channels. I tried it with Shoot em up and that movie is in 7.1 DTS-MA. Also, I can't get it to decode anything in True HD. I have tried every setup between the Panny and the Yamaha and nothing gives. Does anyone have this setup by any chance ? Any help is appreciated

Do you have the player set to bitstream?
Have you selected the proper soundtrack in the movie audio set up menu? Other than that it would have to be in the receiver, and it is listed as able to decode these codecs so it must be an easy fix somewhere. |

I assume you are using HDMI as opposed to analog 7.1.
Try digging in the receiver menu, I have the 661 and it took a lot of tweaking in the menus to get it set up properly, and the instruction manual was halpful, but not specific enough at times. I looked at the yamaha site for the 663 and it does clarify that it does decode these codecs. |

When I played 3:10 to Yuma the 7.1 PCM track came up fine and I thought it was going to be fine. All 7 channels lit up but one problem the center channel wasn't working. When I changed the field sound on my Yamaha VX-663 the efects seemed to be working and the center would work then but all dialogue came from the center and the fron two mains. Also, when I play 5.1 True HD movies the Yamaha VX663 will not let you change the field so I can pick up all 7.1 channels. I have a Panasonic Bd-30 and with "300" the True HD wouldn't even work. What am I doing wrong ? Am I just going to be able to watch movies in 5.1 ? Am I getting True HD and DTS MA just because my receiver shows them ? Is it true lossless if you do change the field to pick up the back speakers. I'm totally lost and am hoping its not the receiver

Thanks guys ! Yes I have done everything you all have mentioned but with no luck. Its funny because 3:10 to Yuma immediately brought up all 7 channels but then the center channel did not work. With "300" True HD would not work either but when I put Spidey 3 in The True HD came up right away but then it was in 5.1 which I know it is suppose to be. Thats another question I have on the 663 , how do you somehow get those back surrounds on for 7.1 ? I know you can do this with the Onkyo 605 ! I put in Shoot'em up and it found the DTS-MA track right away but in 5.1 and it says on the Blu-Ray 7.1 DTS Master Audio.I found that post on AVS last night and started reading it but it was 4 in the morning and I had to get up for work at 6

Crackinhedz,
with 3:10 to Yuma I'm not using any sound fields because it immediately brings up the PCM 7.1 tracks but without the center channel working. Once I switch it from the straight mode to any other field the center comes on. I have my Panny set to bitstream and the secondary audio is off. I have the multichannel set on in the panny instead of two channel. Its just weird because the 663 will immediately recognize Spidey 3 D-True HD but not 300. It also recognizes Shoot em Up which is 7.1 DTS-MA but it only plays in 5.1 I feel like the new surround rears I just installed in my ceiling are useless to me know. What do you think Crackinhedz ? Thank you ![]() |

Anytime you apply a layer of processing, such as PL2x, to add 2 more channels to a 5.1 signal it will cause a degradation of the sound. How bad will be up to you to decide. bill |

Crackinhedz, yes I am running HDMI directly from my Panny to my AVR using a 3mm HDMI cable ( very short.) Musicman I'm glad you brought that up because I was wondering if that was the case. I know 7.1 was not made for the theatres but I love the sound of those extra speakers in the back because it just fills the room. But they are coming out with movies in Blu-Ray that are 7.1 I have two of them "3:10 to Yuma and Shoot em Up" but one only does 5.1 DTS-MA and the other one is PCM 7.1 and the center channel won't work unless I use a sound field. I had a Yamaha HTR-5740 which I replaced with the 663 to get True HD and DTS -MA but now I'm wondering if I really needed to make that change. I've only had the receiver one day but I'm just having these problems and hopefuly with the help of those on this board I will get it figured out, thanks again

On the 663. Go to page 94 in your manual to set extended surround modes
