My new PS3 arrived and ugh! - can't figure out how to output PS3 source audio through my 2-channel speaker setup (as you know those crappy built-in TV speakers don't cut it) while retaining the HDMI visual output. Do any of you AV wizards know if it's doable? It was easy with my old DVD player, as it had the analog audio connectors plus a HDMI connection. Also, anyone familiar with the Sony Blu-Ray welcome disc that's included with the new Playstation's? I set my TV and PS3 to output a resolution up to 1020p, but that damn welcome disc only outputs to 720. Is that the way it's suppose to be? I need to rent a recent Blu-Ray movie and see if it bumps up my monitor image to 1020i/p.

Are you using the component cables for your sound, or are you using optical?

Don't have an optical connector in my receiver so that option is a no go. I have loads of component and AV connectors lying around here, but no configuration I can come up with is working out. I can run component/audio cables from my TV monitor (Sharp Aquos LC-37D62U) to my receiver (NAD 720BEE) of course, but no way to get them to sync so far with that PS3. Of course I want the HDMI connection intact for the visual output. The idea of just using the AV 3-into-1 cable for audio and video is unthinkable of course.

Thanks everyone. In discussing with Sony tech support it appears I have a defective unit. Whew! It's on the way back for an exchange.

yes you can output audio and video seperate with hdmi and analog. i do it sometimes to test things out but usually just use component/analog or hdmi depending on the situation |

I highly doubt your PS3 is defective. Do NOT SEND IT BACK WITHOUT TRYING THIS FIRST:
The PS3 can definitely output video via HDMI while outputting audio via the Multi-AV port analog jacks. I switch to that mode all the time in order to hear 2-channel SACDs at the highest resolution possible via PS3. I received a Monster PS2 Multi-AV set as a freebie bonus in an Ebay auction, and since the multi-AV plug set is solely for Playstations, it is probably the best multi-AV plug set out there. You simply need to connect both HDMI directly to the TV and the multi-av plug audio jacks to your receiver. Once those are in place, adjust the audio settings in the PS3 XMB. Make sure you save the settings upon exit, otherwise it won't update. |

Yes, yes, yes. I tried everything mentioned here. It won't work. Back it goes.
