Whatever ones sound better to YOU

Any other advice anyone gives you will more than likely be brand-loyal propaganda.

That's largely true, but it assumes that listeners know what sounds good (some people think that Bose stuff sounds good!). I agree that educated ears can differ on opinion, though.

I want something that realistically approximates the sound of the recorded event.

When you are talking 129 dollar speakers that have a sensitivity in the upper 80's dB and no tolerance on the frequency range well you get what you pay for.

Playing music is not the best choice for a home theater speaker because that isn't what you will be playing through them most of the time.

Since I build mine from scratch I guess I am not the best source. However make sure the levels are matched between the two choices or you will choose the louder of the two.

Soundtrack reproduction can require rather high audio levels and with the two choices you have given us you are just not going to get there without popping cirguit and speaker protection.

Sound like what you hear from IMAX requires a different approach.
to quote from their site

"IMAX SOUND
Unlike conventional theatre sound systems, IMAX digital surround sound systems deliver multi-channel, uncompressed, full fidelity sound that is simply unsurpassed in depth and clarity. IMAX's amplifiers generate up to 14,000 watts of power, not volume, to provide the audience with life-like sound. IMAX's proprietary loudspeaker system delivers exacting volume and quality at every seat throughout the theatre. From a small drop of rain to an enormous clap of thunder, you'll hear every shade and subtlety, regardless of where you are sitting."

The Sony's have better tweeters, midrange (the polk doesn't have one), and a better driver. I'd go for the Sony.

Fill a large room with the deep bass and pure treble of the SS-F5000 floor-standing speakers. Built to recreate tones across the entire range, these speakers elevate your music to a new high. The precision sound reproduction provides high resolution audio that you and your guests will appreciate from song to song.

8" advanced Kevlar H.O.P. woofer.

3 1/4" Enhanced H.O.P. cone, mid driver

1" Nano FineŽ balanced dome tweeter.

Sound reproduction to 50kHz for high resolution audio.

150W maximum input power.
