Hi guys,
I bought the BDP-S1 a few days ago and am very satisfied with the player so far. However, I am having a minor issue. I am using the 5.1 analog outs on the player and have it hooked up to my Denon AVR-4800. I calibrated the 5.1 inputs using the video essentials DVD. After doing so I noticed that the 5.1 inputs are overly loud. Loud to the point that it hurts my ears! Did I calibrate it wrong? Should I just match the levels of my coax and optical inputs on the reciever? I did notice that when adjusting the levels, the 5.1 inputs were higher than my other inputs. For example for normal DVD i ran it through coax. When calibrated to 75db the levels are something like -2db for the fronts, and -8db for the surrounds. With the 5.1 the levels are more like +1 or +2 for the fronts and and -1db for the rears. Thanks for the help. |

I imagine you did it but try the calibration again. I use a Yamaha that automatically adjusts sound levels. The calibration will be thrown off if there is excess noise in the room. Make sure the reciever is set for the proper size speakers. I don't know if your recieiner has such a function. If you are still having problems then you will need to manually adjust the calibration.
My only other suggestion is to use a digital optical cable for sound. Go to a store that allows returns. Get the optical cable and test it out. If it still does not fix the problem them take the cable back. |

I have calibrated it manually. What I ended up doing in the end is just matching the sound levels to my DVD input. I would venture to guess that the sony on PCM is louder than the signal generated by video essentials. It seems to be working well now. I wish the sony had more extensive settings within the menu's when using the analog outs.
