Default Going mental with choice

Yes (very) annoyingly this is another one of those god awful abc vs xyz threads, but I need some advice.

I have recently sold off my ENTIRE home set up, 40" bravia, 6.2 surround, the lot she's all gone. I am moving to Gold Coast in two months and have already started ordering my new HT set up for when I get there. I have settled on Axiom speakers, Oppo upconverting dvd player and a few other nice gadgets.

What I'm really having trouble settling on is which reciever to get and it's really starting to do my head in.

I've narrowed my choice down to the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH and Integra DTR-7.8. From all accounts they both offer the same audio features, with the Elite having the extra HDMI, which would be handy.

But I'm not reeeeeaaallllyyyy 100% set one or tother.

If someone, anyone, could sway me one or the other and give me sound advice on which one would be best. It would be hugely appreciated.

Soooooooooooo 6 of one, half a dozen of the other?

Do both have 1080p on screen menu? That seems to be a detail I can't find for either.

I was in the same boat as you "can't decide" the Integra is real nice and it is related to Onkyo by blood. It has the same Faroudja as the pioneer. I don't know if it is important to you but a Onkyo TX-SR875 has REON HQV. There is a review of it in HOME THEATER MAG probably online as well at their site. Anyways it kicked butt. The pioneer looks beautiful and it was one of my choices. In the end I went with the Onkyo TX-SR875 because of video quality. Got it through J & R music world for $1083 that includes an additional three year warranty. I just ordered it and will be here monday so I can't give you my personal thoughts yet.

Anyways both are great receivers and that Integra model compares pretty much to a Onkyo 805 and will cost less. happy hunting.

Does anyone know if the Pioneer Elite is under another product name outside the US?

I'm not 100% sure but I think in Australia the equivalent of the ELITE line is the LX line.

Excellent choice on speakers by the way.

I thought as much, just wanted to double check. I can get hold of both the Pioneer and the Onkyo for dirt cheap prices.

Ah feck it I might just flip a coin.

The Axoim? Yeah I stumbled across them by mistake and what really attracted me to them was their worldwide shipping. If Polk had offered something like that I would go for them instead. But from all accounts and reviews Axiom sound bloody good.

I was in the same boat as you just a couple of months ago. I had it down between many, but ultimately went with the Integra 7.8. It doesn't have 1080P upconverting as some do, but my PS3 and DVD player do that for me anyway, so it really didn't make a difference to me. Another huge deciding factor was the weight difference. The Pioneer is 38 pounds, and the Integra is over 50. It does get hot while running, but it sounds great. I am happy with it, and recommend it.

I'd go with the Pioneer because of the extra HDMI.

Yeah - the Pioneer's definitely look sexy and have for a very long time.

If the Elite 94 had DSD>Analog and .flac streaming I would have picked it up some time ago.
