Hi all, I am in the market for a Home Theater Receiver and I was looking at the Onkyo Line. I was originally considering the TXSR605B and then noted there was a TXSR606B and it was cheaper, by $100 or so. I am in Canada and was looking at some online pricing and I was hoping someone could shead some light on which is better and if the $100 difference is justified, or if both are equal receivers.
Normally the higher moder #'s indicate a newer moder, so I am questioning why the newer model would be cheaper. Please provide info, as well as preferences..... I am set on purchasing something this year and I wanted to be sure I spent my money well. Thanks B |

Onkyo 605 is tried, tested and true. Can't go wrong.

For some reason the 605 recently took a huge jump and is higher in price. My guess is supply and demand since I don't think they're still making it. Also, it had a pretty good surge in popularity thanks to blu-ray and this site.
At this time the 606 would be a better buy unless you find a 605 refurb. If you can wait there's no doubt it'll drop in price again. |

I can't see why anyone would recommend you get a 605 over the 606.
The 606 is the new edition of the 605. New 605s are going to be rarer because the line is likely soon to be discontinued (if not already) and some sellers are just douchebags. If you're looking on Amazon, the more expensive 605 is sold by a third party (not actually Amazon). The MSRP on both units should be $499. |

well for one thing, the 606 does 1080i upscaling, thats a nice feature, i believe it also comes with the Audyssey or w/e setup mic for calibration... 4 HDMI in compared with 2, nicer remote, and if you can get it for the same price or even a bit more, i'd say these features justify it. |
