Default PS3 Firmware Suggestions

What would you like to see included in future updates?
For me,

Ability to message while playing a game
Folders for videos (Browsing through 250 videos gets hard)
Playlists for songs
.MOV, .AVI, video playback

There's more that i'll post later.

Three things I want most in forthcoming firmware updates...

1) Upgrade the flash media player to whatever is the highest version, or at least version 8 as that seems to be the most common update request I get.
2) Like on the above post I'd like XMB access from within the game. Actually, I can't be certain, but this might be a software issue rather than a firmware/hardware issue. This might be something the game developer needs to take into consideration, as I read somewhere (probably here) that Resistance is gonna have a free update to allow XMB friendlist access, this Friday.
3) The ability to shutdown/restart Folding@Home via Remote Play. I only really want this feature since my PS3 is on 24/7 anyway (running F@H/gaming/watching movies/using the browser), It would make sense to be able to interrupt F@H and use remote play, then load it up again when you're done.

Actually... there is kind of a way to create playlists, but it can tend to be kinda arduous. You have to change the information listed in each song you want in a specific grouping. All the songs you want in a playlist have to have the Album name changed, spelled exactly the same for each song you want in the list. Then, you can change the track number under each song to play in the order that you want it to play in, otherwise the songs get listed alphabetically. You can leave all other information alone (track name, artist name, etc).

Additionally, if you want the same song in multiple playlists, you need to import the same song as many times as you need to the Hard Drive, and then change the information for each copy to make sure they go where you want, accordingly.

Just a simple request from me. I'd like to know what Blu-ray movie I have loaded in my PS3. I don't believe that would be hard to do, but it would add a nice touch.

Yeah I'd have to agree, plus I'd add one more:

1) Create playlists for my music.

2) Let me hear my music while gaming.

3) Decode DTS Master Audio.

Yeah it's a nice little touch I would like as well. Every game or BD movie or DVD or CD for that matter that I play in it could get added to an inventory list automatically..then I could export it to a text file on a memory card for insurance purposes etc.

I've thought of a few more:

Ability to view/edit text files
Find track names/album info when ripping

Given the power management capabilities of the Cell..I'd say energy saver mode is a given..just matter of which update..controller charging at the same time hopefully.

Looks like you guys have all the stuff I would love to see: Access to XMB from in-game, TrueHD/dtsMA, Text View/Edit, Music/Video Playlists, Further File Type support, Better Flash support and for my own little request, I would like to have it remember my keyboard word input, not just from the controller.

Album art. Play music in game. To know what br or dvd is in your player(for previews you download you can make a 15 second clip that will play as well as say the name of the movie, should be the same for br or dvds). I am happy so far and these are the only things I can think of right now.

You can already add your own album art, unless you mean it should download it automatically.

The album art I add is just pictures I have stored on my PS3. It would be to much work to find the album art of over 70 cds. A download or automatic download would be nice.

Yes it would...and a service that pulled in the lyrics to the visual player etc would be something I'd be willing to pay a small fee for...flat fee not per item.

Doesn't have to be synched just available as scrollable text that has been styled to fit in..

YES.

I get tired of hearing X-box360 fans remind me that the PS3 can't do this.

I can't believe that this doesn't drive other people crazy. You should be able to shut down the system or change discs and have the system remember where you were in the movie!
