Default Japanese PS3 sales fall back after MGS4 debut

http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=6246

Not sure what this is trying to say.

It reads like MGS did not do very well, but I think it means that MGS pushed sales up 400%, in the first week, not that they lost 75% the next week...

What say you?

i agree with you i think that MGS had pushed up sales really high and now the whole "73% loss" is just back to 27% above where it was.

of course ps3 sales are gonna fall after rising 400% in a week.

If I remember right, xbox 360 sales fell pretty dramatically the week after Halo 3 came out.

Just spin to make the PS3 sound bad.

I hate xbox. Somewhere near the bottom of that article I'm sure you'll find some variation of the word microsoft.

From a Journalistic point of view, they had the choice between four headlines:

1) Sony' PSP regains the lead, PS3 still selling Big.
2) PS3 still selling 100% above average in second week
3) Xbox still abysmal results in Japan
4) PS3 sales fall 73% in second week of MGS sales

I guess they picked the "most journalistic" title ...

NPD for May showed the PS3 was the 2nd best selling console (Wii...then PS3 unless they are counting handhelds). Why are they mixing US console sales with Japan's console and software sales?

Do we know if they sold out of MGS4 bundles in Japan during that time period?

Guys, this is about Japan. Of course it will fall down because MGS is not targeted to japanese market.

Let's see what it will do in US and europe.

+10. i had no problem with the original Xbox, but i can not stand the 360. Niomi Hunter needs to make a new foxdie virus. one that only targets 360's..............Oh wait, she already did. its call red rings of death

It was changed in the japanese market to target them, so I'm gonna go ahead and say that it was targeted at Everyone.

The sales are down because there are only 40 gig units around. I am in the market for two 80 gig PS3's but can't find any. I refuse to buy a 40 for various reasons. My son and I were out last weekend and we stopped at all the big B&M stores as well as the Sony Style Store and there was not a single 80 gig unit to be had. I'll buy two when I can find them.

Sales are down because they don't have any to sell. Where are the 80GB units? Sony should just get rid of the 40GB model, and drop the price of the 80GB MSG4 SKU to $399. It is clear that the 80GB bundle is killing the sales of the 40GB. That's what the market is telling them. Why is it so hard for Sony executives to hear the customers?

I paid over $4,000 for the very first 42" wide screen rear projection TV when it first came out. And I paid over $4,000 for the 37" Sharp AQUOS LCD TV, also when it first came out. My 46" AQUOS that I bought later was less than $2,000. Today, a 52" Aquos can be had for $1,700. That's the price that we paid for being early adoptors.

I paid $600 for my PS3 60GB and not one part of me feels I got ripped off.

Espeically considering Sony sold it at a $250 loss to me.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah, your wrong, i don't think you are reading things right.

PS3 normally sells around 10k a week in Japan.

The week of Metal Gear Solid 4, PS3 sold around 75,000 (metal gear is still a big series in japan, just not as big as the States or Europe).

The next week Sales of PS3 dropped to around 25,000 I believe.

The article goes on to make it look like this awful drop off for PS3 and says sales drop 7X%, but fails to mention that PS3 sales are still up 150%/week since MGS IV came out, which is spin on their part.

PS3 had 2 strong weeks in Japan due to MGS, obviously the release week will be a lot stronger.

Amen to that. Between games like Resistance, Uncharted, MGS4, GT5P, Super Stardust etc. and the 40 or so Blu-rays I've had more than enough fun out of my PS3 to justify my launch purchase.
