Default Fox Blu-rays? Not the Greatest?

Does anyone else think the Fox releases aren't the greatest quality. Day after Tomorrow as a prime example?

Fox are my favourite studio! alway great transfers (at least with newer titles) and dts HD MA - which, because my receiver only takes optical, means I get the 1.5mbps core instead of the usual 448-640k Dolby Digital offered by Sony, Disney, Warner etc

I just noticed aswell that my favourite film, The Fountain, is done by fox in Europe - I got the usa warner version on the cheap but I think I'll have to upgrade to the fox version

Perhaps it's just me then. I watched about 5 mins yesterday and felt it was slighty grainy compared to some of my other Blus.

You should read the article on grain on Digitalbits.com.

It may be intended to look grainy.

My biggest complaint towards FOX BD's is their programming - while the main feature plays back ok, I cannot access any menu from any additional material on their discs, meaning that I can either stop the playback with STOP button on my remote, or just fast forward it till the addit. feature ends; neither Top Menu nor Pop Up Menu are accessible.

Thats because they took a similar approach like Warner's blu-rays because in the movies made from Warner it has that same navigation of the chapters and bookmarks on where you left off instead of doing that press Circle or stop on the remote controll i believe even Superbad had that same feature in it. With Warner's blu-rays however when you press either top menu or pop-up menu (i forget which one it was) and it brings you to the main menu where all of the extras are and where you can go to play movie but otherwise you just have to do the bookmark on where you ended so you can go back to that same spot instead of having to restart the whole movie and then just keep pressing the chapter skip over and over until you find where you left off

You should start educating yourself about film instead of assuming that film must look like digital photography in order to be good.

Read!!

Some of the discs they have released is a pain like "die hard 1-4" but Day after tomorrow is very good picture quality.

But what I hate about Fox is the loading they use....... it takes almost 5 min just to start the film.

I saw a demo of one the Die Hard movies at Best Buy (either part 3 or 4) and I thought it looked terrific on the screen they were showing it on at that Magnolia part of the Best Buy store i was at and the audio was out of this world good almost like as if i was there

When comes to Die hard on bd I can not see any difference from dvd picture quality to blu-ray. But the worst about fox is they loading they use there has to be a better way to do this.

I agree with you the fox blu ray's that i have watched haven't been that amazing I read a review saying that "From Hell" was one of the best transfers he had seen, frankly i wasn't that impressed It was only slightly better than the R1 Special edition DVD.

IMO though i must admit i thought Die hard 4.0 & Xmen 3 were pretty good transfers.

either get ur eyes checked or buy a new tv?

Theres a huge difference......it had awesome picture quality on my set, esp. from an 80s movie....again, any movie released on this format is at its best quality compared to any previous format esp. DVD (480i vs. 1080p is no comparision, even upconverted). Its identical to its threatical release. So saying that it looks just as good as its dvd, is utterly insane.....sorry but true

Fox is good, not as good as Disney or Lionsgate, but Fox is Blu-friendly. I remember one of the first Blu-rays I bought was the Die hard Collection, and their PQ and AQ was substantially better. For a while, Live Free or Die Hard was my demo disc.

But I agree with the above posts, that Blu-ray is the best quality over DVD, and that more people should be educated on film grain. It's either intended or an older movie.

Back on topic, I am satisfied with Fox.
