Default Oldest HD Film?

Does anyone know the oldest existing film that is now, or ever, going to be relased on Blu-ray?

I know one of the oldest HD films in general is The Adventures of Robin Hood, but the oldest Blu-ray film would be interesting too.

Default The Top 5 List

From what I recall, in descending order:

Rio Bravo (Warner) 1959
Mars And Beyond (Disney) 1957
Jailhouse Rock (Warners) 1957
The Searchers (Warner) 1956

and the winner is:

8-Ball Bunny (Warner) 1950

About the oldest you could release on BD maybe some Lumiere action flick or Edison reel, or maybe David Francis can put on a Magic Lantern show?

On "March of the Pen-gu-ins", no less.
(...OOO, I'm DYYYYin'!)

"20 Million Miles to Earth" would've clocked in at a mere 1957, but...nope.

Don't know if I would count anything that's an extra. I personally think it should only count as a Feature Title...

"The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938), is probably one of the oldest films currently "slated" for Blu-Ray, unfortunately. "The Wizard of Oz" and "Gone With the Wind" were 1939 titles and they have been slated for "sometime next year". I hope more catalog titles get the HD treatment, but only time will tell whether or not this will happen.

Edwin S. Porter's The Great Train Robbery from 1903 is one of the oldest motion pictures in existence.

The Great Train Robbery was on the verge of hitting cinema's second decade. There are hundreds of earlier films still extant going back to at least 1894.

Hopefully, we'll see some silents on Blu-Ray soon enough. I expect probably not until there's a larger market. However, SilentEra.com has been a big supporter of Blu-Ray, a format that has released absolutely none of the films of the era of film that they cover. But they do tell the visitors of their site that Blu-Ray is their preferred format and everybody should go for BD when silents start being produced in HD.

I can't wait until Cabinet of Dr. Caligari gets a great, restored, transfer to BD.

Nosferatu would be good

Also, The Picture Of Dorian Gray.

I know Robin Hood beats it, but I hope WB puts Casablanca out on Blu, since it's been on HD DVD for almost a year now.

Nosferatu will likely be among the first. A 2-Disc DVD with what's supposed to be the best restoration ever was recently released -- that would basically only need the HD upgrade. Caligari would take a little more work, probably.

I would like to see some of the old Lon Chaney films restored and put on Blu-ray. Classics like Phantom of the Opera and Hunchback of Notre Dame, but also some of the more obscure (and rather strange) classics directed by Tod Browning.

Default Oldest Movie on Blu-Ray?

So I'm watching Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte right now, Great Bette Davis Film. And Now I'm wondering if you guys could help me out, what is the Oldest Movie available on Blu-Ray?

I'd really like some Marilyn Monroe on Blu, but that probably isn't coming any time soon. But I really have an urge to go and Buy a Classic now... Suggestions?

Also, I'm trying to stay away from War Movies, so Not a Bridge too Far or Battle of Britain, or anything along those lines
