Default Do Region 2 Blu-rays still have PAL speed?

I'd like to import a few movies from the UK, but the PAL speed is a big turn off. I know alot of films get pitch correction, but i want the film at it's correct speed.

I've heard alot of Blu Rays are region free these days, so is PAL speed still an issue?

No, this is no longer an issue since blu-rays are at the original movie frame rate of 24 fps (with some exceptions, of course).

However, some extras could be PAL and might not be playable on some blu-ray players, even if the disc is region free.

PAL speed up isnt really an issue with Blu-ray as the vast majority of releases contain the same 1080p/24hz material worldwide.

So something like the Blu Ray of 101 Dalmatians from the UK would be 1080p/24hz ?

Also, it's Region B for Blu-ray, not Region 2.

Depends. Most UK Blu-rays run at 24fps (as is the norm for all films), but when comes to a 1080i transfer, odds are it will be from an NTSC or PAL transfer. I know there are some Blu-ray that feature a PAL/25fps transfer.

As long as you buy stuff coming from the major studios you should be safe. Smaller distributors can on occasion use 1080i/50Hz for their blu-rays so some caution in those instances. When in doubt it is always good to read reviews or to ask.

If you have AnyDVD HD it is quite simple. If you don't you can always put the BD in a PC drive and do a BDInfo scan of it.

Don't you still need AnyDVD HD to remove the copy protection so you can run BDInfo? I thought this was the case last time I used it.

Not sure on that as I have owned AnyDVD HD since 2008 and will have it the rest of my life.

How can you tell if your TV is able to handle 1080i/50hz? I looked through the tech specs of my TV and couldn't find any obvious information. I ordered a cheapass 1080i/50hz bluray of a movie I like that's not out in Region A, and I'll be able to play it through my computer so it's not the end of the world if it won't work, but it would be good to know how to find that info.

I don't think any US TVs can handle 50hz but there are several makes of player that will convert it to a format they can handle.

Even if your TV can't handle 50hz (like mine), if the BD player converts the 50hz signal to 60hz, then it would be no problem (like mine),

Some US Sony TVs can display NTSC and PAL, I had one of these.

My 3D monitor and BD PC drives can though.

I've been thinking of importing Broadchurch on blu from the UK since we seem to only be getting a DVD version. It's in PAL 1080i though, despite being region free. I have a blu player with region free DVD playback and PAL to NTSC conversion for DVD... would Broadchurch play do you think?

Oh, OK, I didn't know the bluray player was what I had to check there. Evidently the Panasonic BDT210 can't do it. OH WELL, guess I'll look around for a cheap thing just for the express purpose of playing the couple things I have with PAL extras and 1080i 50hz stuff.
