Greetings,
I currently have a Samsung 50' DLP which is 720P. Model number of the set is HLS5086. It served me well for the 1.5 years. I am currently looking at a Samsung or LG. I perfer Samsung but I also heard LG has its ways as well. I will be hooking up the new tv to my Denon 1909 reciever which is 1.3a. These are the options: LG - 47" Class 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV- Model 47LG70 $1699 LG - Scarlet 42" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV- Model 42LG60 $1999 Samsung - 46" Class 1080p 120HZ Flat Model LN46A630 $1999 Samsung - 40" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV- Model LN40A750 $2000 I am looking at spending $2000 bucks as the most. I came here to see what the experts think I should get. I do not get the technical aspects of the tvs, but am willing to learn. |

If you are looking at LCDs they say the A650 is one of the best on the market right now, the A630 is a very similar TV. I would take the added screen size on that over the added features on the A750.

I think you will find going from a 50" tv you will not want to go as small as 40-42"s, you should prolly stay in the 46-52" range. I think you may get regrets about buying a tv that is too small.
Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color $2099 Samsung LN46A750 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color $1849 Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color $1600 Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV $1788 Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV $1690 Although I have only seen LG's in places like BB, CC and Paul's Big Screen, I would have to say that they have a nice picture in the store. Having seen Samsungs and Panasonic, and Sony TVs outside of the store, I can personally vouch for the fact that they have prolly the best pictures of all the brands I have seen. While it sounds as if you are looking at getting a TV with HDMI v1.3a hook ups, I have left off the Sonys because their TV in this price range and size won't have the xvYcc and deep color you asking for. I am not sure where you are shopping, but I would suggest that you should buy from amazon and get the free shipping and take advantage of the fact that you will be able to buy more TV for your money. The LG's I see has 24fps playback which is nice, the only one of those tv's listed above with that is the 800U panasonic, which is nice cause you get a natural movie like feel when watching blu-rays, the 120Hz will be nice for sports on the LG. All in all, I would say think about the TV's listed above in your purchasing decision, but buy what your gut is telling you to buy. You have to purchace with YOUR eyes and your natural instinct in order to be fully satisfied. Good luck and have fun. |

Well I would be buying from Best Buy due to the fact of the 3yrs no intrest part. I wouldnt buy a TV from online. Id buy local due to the fact that if I have issues I can use their service and not online. I have doubts on the plasma tvs. Don't all tv's use 24fps on playback for Bluerays?

I also want to chime-in and say that you do NOT want to go smaller than what you currently have. You will regret it in the long run. As mentioned earlier, for your budget and size, I would go with a 50" Panasonic plasma. Just my opinion.

In regards to IR i have never had IR on my set and am apoproaching 300 hours now. I have obviously never had burn in either and while it can still happen, it is highly unlikely unless you have a static image on the screen for 10 + hours the conerns about buying online? you should not have any. If it is a tv that you can get at BB or CC go check them out in the store, decide if youlike the tv then order much cheaper online. No not all tv's do 24fps. you will need to check the specs of all tv's you are interested in to make sure that they can display 24fps |

I would go with the Samsung LN46A650. I bought this tv about a month ago and I gotta tell ya this thing is amazing!!! The 120hz is what makes this thing kick. I was so blown away by it the minute I put my first blu ray in. It looks more real than real life lol. You will not be disappointed in this choice. I was also able to track in down on www.buydig.com for $1700 with free shipping as where as bestbuy and many other stores wanted 2200-2300 for it. Shipping was quick and flawless. So if ya want an awesome tv that is in your price range and dont mind waiting about a week for it, Id go that route. good luck

deep color (this is a sony invention, not many applcations support it yet) supports 24fps (not natively) but does accept the signal 3 hdmi 1.3a upgradeable firmware (think this is with almost all tv these days) 20000:1 contrast ratio when you step into the 3k price range you ould possibly be looking at the pioneer kuro sets, which are the ultimate plasma's. Kuros are the only ones that beat the panasonic viera line of plasma's, but even then it is not by much. Kuro's have the ultimate deep blacks and are for the real videophiles amongst us. Again it is persoal prefrence. If you go LCD Samsung do make good sets/ both of these are $1999 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202649424291 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1205246214924 If you go plasma in your price range, then panasonic hands down http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1200703056434 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1200703056434 Only difference between the 80u and the 85u is that thecontrast ratio is 30000:1 on the 85u compared to 20000:1 on the 80u, but the difference ins negligable Now if you want to spend more and get one of the best plasma's on the market then the pioneer kuro is the way to go. on sale this week from $3999 to $2999 which is an excellent deal http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1210290068342 Last edited by brett_day; 09-22-2008 at 01:00 PM. |

Supports 1080p24 with 48Hz (2:2 pulldown) http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.a...u=PNTH50PZ800U That's an amazing price when you consider it bests the picture quality of all other 50"-52" sets which are normally upwards of $2,200-$2,500. The only 50" it doesn't best is the PDP-5020 and its ELITE cousin, but you'll pay another extra $1,000 for one of those. Quote:

I just picked up a new-in-box Samsung 46" A650 for $1400 ($1508 including tax). A great find. They usually have cheaper prices because they have lower overhead. This was a small family-owned & operated store. Very basic, nothing fancy, but the prices were unbeatable. ![]() |

Why not go bigger (and better in my opinion)?
61" Samsung LED DLP HL61A750 $1,800 No motion lag (which you may get with an LCD), wonderful color accuracy, great black levels, lots of user adjustments available. You could even get the 67" model for $2,200 or so...some have even been getting it for $1,900. Last edited by FilmMaster; 09-22-2008 at 06:39 PM. |
