Default PS3 USB splitter?

Is there any sort of device that increases the number of USB ports on your PS3? I'd assume that someone makes a general "USB splitter" of some sort, but will that work with PS3? (since devices are assigned to a specific port, if you split that port, won't that mess things up?)

Any advice/insight would be appreciated. I'm looking for about four more ports/slots. Thanks!!!...

Use a powered USB hub.

You could do that. But, I have the 20 GB launch PS3 and it has 4 USB slots.

I have the 60GB with four slots. But I want more...

Just playing Rock Band with a full band alone takes up all four. I was thinking of getting a PS Eye. I have three controllers. I hate plugging and unplugging things as I use them, so it'd be nice to be able to have plugged in at all times:

* Drums
* Guitar
* Bass
* Mic
* Three charging controllers
* PS Eye

Is this possible?

But what about the port issue? Let's say I use a USB hub and it's plugged into Port 1. Then I plug three controllers into that hub. Now, aren't all three controllers assigned to Controller Slot 1?

Am I making sense? I tend to ramble.

I know everything but the controllers will work. I have tried charging controllers. I use a powered hub when I play Rockband and Singstar with Eye.

You should be fine when playing rockband there is no need for more than one regular controller to be on.

Thanks Chocolatejas!

Will this one work?:

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-4-Port-Ultra-Mini-F5U407/dp/B000Q8UAWY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1225288694&sr =8-1

It says something about it not being "powered". Does the PS3 peripherals need a powered hub, or no?...

Thanks again.

I have a stand my PS3 sits on which plugs into one of the front USB ports and gives me 2 more at the back (which it should have had in the first place). I have the PlaystationEye and an external drive plugged into them and never had any problems.

Powered ones are advisable, sometimes other peripherals reuire a bit more juice than what a USB port pumps out. Especially if ou are plugging a lot of things into them.

That's not how USB works. You can have any number of devices plugged in and they will have unique device ID's.

You should be fine.

That sounds cool. Who makes the stand? I'd like to get one for one of my PS3's in the living room - I hate that they didn't put a port on the back. Even one would have been nice.

So, wait...

...If I plug, say, two guitars and the drums into a 4-port USB hub that is plugged into port 1 on the PS3, and then I press the "PS" button on each peripheral, each one will say a different number (like, next to where it shows the battery charge level)???

I have 4 USB ports, but given Rock band instruments and other peripherals I quickly ran out of room. For that reason I picked up this powered USB splitter, which is available at Gamestop, Amazon, and other places:

http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-USB-...302925&sr=1-61

It may not be the cheapest hub, but it's officially licensed by Rock Band. It's a powered and has four additional USB ports.

Yes, the cheap splitters will work. I got a $20 from CVS, and it works fine on my PS3.

The USB ports are dynamic in that no matter which port you plug in to, the controller will just grab the next open slot. It won't hurt anything at all to plug any controller into any USB port.

And not to get all ANAL or anything, but please don't call them splitters. They are actually USB hubs, and USB splitters are altogether a different animal.
