Will the Planet Earth DVD set only play on an HD DVD player? - Blu-ray Forum

I purchased the set for my father on dvdsetshop for Fathers day and he can't seem to get it going. I'm thinking that he may need a special DVD player equipped for HD DVD. Please let me know if you have any information. Thanks!

Firstly, check the DVD region code.

DVD can be played on both HD DVD and BD players, provided they're in the same region or region 0.

Also, you sure it's a regular DVD, not HD DVD?

The only kind of disk that will only play on HD DVD players is an HD DVD disk. A regular DVD should play on any Blu-ray player.

Here's a pic that you can use as reference.

The big one is the DVD release version. The two smaller ones are the HD-DVD and the Blu-ray releases. The HD-DVD has the red bar across the top, and is in a red case. The blu-ray version has a blue bar across the top and is in a blue case. If you've got one of the smaller types, then you'll need one of those players to play it. If you've got the DVD type, and it won't play, it's probably, as mentioned above, region coded.
