I'll reserve my opinion for later.

those seconds before the interview are pretty hard to listen too. People obvious very sad about this and rightfully so. 15 is so damn young.

That being said , Call of Duty 4 is not to blame as I had read in a previous article and a bit in this one. Obviously they are in a lot of pain , but blaming a game for this tragedy doesn't make any sense.

That's exactly what I think about it.

As much as I have sympathy for the parents, I have to scratch my head at the dad helping him pack his backpack and the mother giving him directions.

Why?

It is what I would do if my goofy son wanted to run away because we took away a game system. What is he going to do with no house and no game system? It is unlikely that he would get a job, rent an apartment, buy an xbox and never come back. Even less likely that he would die. It is (even looking back) obviously highly likely that he would have come back.

It is called calling his bluff. He bluffed harder and got pwn3d.

Anyway, I dont blame the game, or the system, but gaming is obviously a problem with kids and interfering with normal life.

So they are blaming video games and not the parents because?

The parents are the one's who raised him. They are ultimately responsible for shaping their childs life. While this is tragic it could have been prevented. THe most tragic part is that people never want to blame themselves for their shortcomings and find anything else to blame.

In the famous words of South Park the Movie, "BLAME CANADA...before someone thinks of blaming us."

It's amazing how spot on the creators of South Park were on that issue.

Taking away his XBOX was the right thing to do if the kid was an addict. No game should replace your everyday life. There's always a save feature when real life intervenes. The boy may have needed help and the parents thought pulling the Xbox was the logical thing to do. I probably would've done the same. What I wouldn't have done, like the father, was pack a bag for the boy when he threatened to run away. Now he has to live with that anguish for the rest of his life.
Always a sad story when the victim is so young.

He just realized he was playing Hardcore Search and Destroy. He's probably waiting for the next round to start.

I woulden't blame Xbox per se. It can be aneything you spend a lot of time with and get attached to, like a pet. If it gets killed or runs away, the sudden loss can be tragic. Even so, I am sure there was a list of issues that led up to the Xbox thing.
