Default Speaker recommendations?

I currently use a PS3 for bluray and i'm planning on buying a Onkyo 606 for a good price but i'm trying to figure out what speakers to buy to go with it. I'm on a tight budget probably couldn't spend more than 400 for all the speakers and a sub. Can anyone make and recommendations on what brands to buy or models to look for?

A friend of mine got a Bose Acoustimass 6 system for about $350. But I'm pretty sure it was an "Off the truck Special" an install guy had to sell it because his customer cancelled the order.

Not that I'd recommend Bose, but it was a good deal

To be honest, I don't think you will find anything worthwhile new for $400 (5.1 system). Because of this, I recommend that you search through your local Craig's List or eBay for deals.

you know I have never had an issue with my sony speakers until I was (for some reason) watching The Incredible Hulk in 2 channel PCM, then I noticed distrotion from the speakers, it was like too much sound coming from them.... but my receiver is not the best..... so I don't know which one caused the issue.

Other then that one time I have had all good experiences with them.

These Onkyo's are pretty good. My dad bought these after having a Bose system and there was a HUGE improvement for a fraction of the cost. Despite some comments you may hear, you can get a decent set for that price. Sure it may not compare to a $3000 setup, but is the $3k setup 10 times better? I think you'd be more than happy with this set. Having actually heard them, they do a great job.

Buy these Fluance Speakers for $200 factory direct (normal price $300) and buy this Fluance Subwoofer for $200 (normal price $300). In my opinion, it is impossible to get better quality speakers for this price.

Quote from CNET: "You've probably never heard of Fluance, but this little Canadian company could easily be headed for the big time. It somehow builds and sells quality speakers for a fraction of the price that its competitors charge. Fluance sells direct via the Internet, but it's also adding brick-and-mortar dealers. We tested the company's full-sized, five-speaker home-theater package, the AV-HTB, which costs a paltry $199 online. In short, we came away mightily impressed with the sound these speakers delivered for the money.Considering these rock-bottom prices, you might expect obvious cost-cutting measures or flimsily constructed satellites, but the AV-HTB avoids those pitfalls. If we didn't know the price before we examined and auditioned the system, we would have pegged it at between $400 and $500."

But he had Bose to begin with! That's like comparing a '72 Pinto to a new Honda. Of course it's an improvement!

In all seriousness, check Craigslist or try those Fluance. I'm interested in SOMEONE buying them and letting us know how they sound.

In my local Craigslist a guy is selling a nice Klipsch setup minus the sub for $799. If I wasn't already set I'd look into it.

start out piece by piece with something that is very nice and will last you for years.

When you finally have it all together you will be one happy man instead of always wishing for more.

it took me a while to get all my pieces together but I must say I get many requests from friends to come over and watch all the new blu ray releases at my house
