Default Sony 60GB PS3 Back on the Market

I went to Best Buy's website today and this is what caught my eyes. For those that want backward compatibilities here it is. I'm amazed they even have it for sale.

60GB PS3

crazy find. Wonder if it's true or a just an error. Did they find a huge stash in the back or something?

In the newer 80GB PS3 models, they do not have backwards compatibility. It isn't that the old versions stop having BC.

What a deal!!!!!

My co-worker next to me just bought one. Excellent find!

It's like hitting the lottery!

When I add it to my shopping cart, it comes out to being an 80GB version. I think its a big goof from Best Buy.

EDIT: When I did it earlier, it was there as 60GB. Now that I check out my cart later they changed it to the 80GB version.

I'm content with my BC 80gb. I dont need to pay extra for a feature I rarely use.

Ok, This is the billionth time that i have heard this. and i know that the official spec is that they only have limited backwards compatibility. However, I have one of the newer 80gb and i have had no problems playing all of my ps2 games on it. i have even played a ps1 game on it with no problems what so ever. But people make it seem like it will not play any PS2 games, which is just not true.

If you have the 80GB model that has 4 USB ports in the front, then you have a Backwards compatible one. They came in bundles with either Motorstorm or MGS4.

The current 80GB model only has 2 USB ports in the front. Its is NOT backwards compatible with PS2 games.

All models of PS3's can play PS1 games.

Post Refurbished 60GB PS3 @ gamestop.com

I know most people on this site (probably) already know about this; but just as a reminder, Gamestop.com does have 'refurbished' 60GB PS3s for $429.99 and they do carry a limited 30 day (I think) warranty.

I know that they are not "New" but I have never had a problem with any of the refurbished consoles I have bought from them (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS2, XBox, GameCube) in the past.

It sure would be nice though if Sony would re-introduce an 'uplevel' PS3 with all 4 USB ports, the flash memory card slots, and the hardware ("emotion engine" PS2 chip) or software emulation, and a nice big (120-250GB) hard drive. I know they say that dropping PS2 B.C. "saved money", but "COME... ON... SONY...", the R&D on the PS2 CPU is beyond fully amortised by now, and it is THEIR chip, so how much does this thing cost to make???

I know I'd GLADLY pay $500 for a new PS3 with all the bells & whistles, and a nice BIG HDD, and likely many PS3 fans on this site would too! So what da ya say Sony, can you do it??? Yes you can! (So get on it,... NOW!!! )
