What a load.

Not that you allow more than you should, but that it's being diagnosed as 'video game addiction'

'video game addiction' is this years 'A.D.D.'

Hee...I took it out myself, I made my post before reading the article, and thought it was another one of those "dang kids spendin too much time playin video games and not enough time with their studies" kind of things. Then read it, and found out that wasn't the case, so I erased it.

Yes, but, Aaron, you're an anomaly if that's the case, I've seen/read some horror stories about kids and their games and thus ignoring school and whatnot.

Well this turned out a lot better than the story about the 15 yr old Canadian boy. His parents said he was addicted to COD4 on his 360 so they took it away from him. The boy then packed his bags, got on his bike and pedalled off. His father watched as he packed, and even suggested he better pack warmer things. They found the boy's body about three weeks later in a tent in the woods not too far from his house.

I honestly don't understand these issues people are having during "marathon" gaming sessions. I've stayed awake longer then these kids and haven't had a problem. I'm sure the root cause is a prior condition and they are being misdiagnosed because these doctors are blaming the game systems. I hope that this isn't the case and these doctors are missing a true diagnosis that may haunt these kids later.

I'm sure I speak for quite a few people here when I say we can handle a good 72 hour straight marathon. Heck, what will these kids do when they hit college and have to cram for finals? Go to sleep every 30 minutes, or stay up the weekend cramming for that 8 am monday exam?

I played CoD4 for over 50 hours straight over the summer. My eyes hurt so bad I wanted to rip them out of my head and eat them, my fingers hurt too...lol

Or...

Run away when your parents take your Xbox away because you stole money off the table that wasn't yours and skipped school.

Then subsequently fall out of a tree and die.

A few slight differences in the story.

First: The dad didn't watch him pack, he helped him pack. Which gives me NO respect for the father or any sympathy for him at all.

Second: His mom gave him directions.

Third: He wasn't in a tent, he fell out of a tree and died.

So that's what happened, I knew they found the body, but didn't hear anything other then the hypothesis that he froze to death.

The thing that bothers the $#!+ out of me though is the fact that the parents created a charity dealing with getting 'under priveleged' children into sports.

I have no problem with the charity. The problem that I have is the media coverage and the parents. The Media for 3 F**kin' weeks mentioned in EVERY damn article about how the kid had a video game addiction. Even though it was mentioned by the psychological folks down in the 'States that it wasn't an 'addiction'. They just kept calling it that to make themselves feel better.

The other problem that I have is the lack of mentioning that the Dad actually HELPED him pack. I honestly {and I know people will say this makes me sound like a cold hearted prick But...} have more sympathy for a walaby that escaped during a storm and unfortunately died than I do for this kid. What this kid did was just plain plum stupid.

The parents kept trying to say that they were scared that someone from the net came and kidnapped him. Creating this aura of fear and sympathy for them and negating to mention that they gave him directions on his way out the door.

There are many words I'd use to describe the situation, and 'tragic' {the catch word that the media threw around here like it was a damned paper airplane for 3 weeks} ain't one of them.

Hey it happens - people can get addicted to anything - drugs, sex, shopping - it doesn't always have to be a chemical you put in your body - a person simply gets addicted to the pleasure of the act... video game addiction can be just as real as a drug addiction.

Dude this is serious, I mean not being able to stop to the point one does not eat or sleep and end up with a condition similar to having a stroke.
Parents should have done something too I think.
