Default Newly released Blu-ray quality issues(Another Davinci code story)

Why are there shoddy Blus coming out now? First Da Vinci Code, now talk of the Star Trek movies? Why are studios doing this? Blu is supposed to equal quaility, not hack jobs.

Because people buy them. I agree with you. Who would want a crappy blu? Many people apparently. Taste isn't universal and there not enough sense around for it to be called common.

True, but you also have to remember that studios are probably rushing to get these blus out as marketing ploys for their up and coming films. Quality means nothing to them compared to the money they can make.

I'm not aware of the "Shoddy" issues of the titles you mentioned. Do you have other titles in mind too?

I was really shocked when I read the review of the Davinci Code, it's not that old of a movie and it's from Sony no less!! They normally are top notch. I think though too if it's how the movie was intentionally shot the reviewers normally take that into consideration and make sure to mention that's the way it's supposed to be. They don't take points off for that so this appears to be just a bad job!

I've not heard about the Trek movies but it figures if there are issues. Paramount has almost always done a crappy job on anything Trek and I've been anxious and worried to see what they did with the movies on blu. I did think though that Star Trek 2 was supposed to have been restored by Lowry?

Am I losing my mind or did this thread have a different title and a lock not too long ago?

Taste is subjective and additionally lots of people don't know what to look for to determine the quality of a BD. Take a look at the Star Trek thread, there is someone who posted there saying the screenshots look "great". The screenshots are clearly not great. In fact they appear to be an old master with lots of DNR.

More likely it is just the fact that this subject comes up a lot.

It looks fine to me. I gave it a four, as did Peter from HDD.

I'm pretty skeptical about a lot of reviews I see at this site. Have to check out others sites as well to get a good idea of what is reality and what is just opinion.

That said, those Trek screen caps look awful...

I thought The DaVinci Code looked pretty good for the type of movie it is. Personally I found the picture to be sharp and full of detail.

It's not really conclusive either. One person says some Star Trek films are heavily DNR'ed, the other says it's the way it was filmed. And you can't judge screen shots all the time either.

The Star Trek movies are not a rushed job by Paramount. They have been in the works for over a year. The Da Vinci Code looks great. So I am not really sure what the OP is talking about.

Like others have said, taste is subjective. I personally see no issues with the titles the OP listed.

idk if he's just going off what hes reading for the blu-ray.com review or what, but da vinci code got 2.5 stars here, but got 4 stars at HDD, read more than 1 review.

The truth of the matter is that not every release is getting premium treatment on Blu-ray. For an older movie to really impress on Blu-ray, it needs to be transferred very recently with the best possible tools from the best possible sources. Unfortunately that process is very expensive and current levels of Blu-ray sales do not justify the added expenditure on most titles.

The DaVinci Code looks almost exactly like it did in the theaters.

This is the way it was made to look. The complaints about PQ are in error.

I read at least 4 reviews before deciding. Never read just one or two. The majority will pretty much give you the answer. Both reviews I have read for BIG and IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU gave PQ poor to fair. If more reviews indicate the same then you have your answer on these. The DA VINCI PQ is quite a drastic difference in grading and you should read at least one more to see. I try to Netflix a title and decide for myself if I am on the fence about it.

Sometimes a title may not look stellar because of how it is filmed; or because the studios need to remaster or restore the film.

and where is the proof to back up this claim? Or is this what you think is happening?
