Default Either i'm stupid,or i'm angry......

Ok, I have a question, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated....So i bought the Wall-E blu ray and saw a feature i was really looking foward to called "Geek Track: Pop-up commentary by pixars Geek Squad".... I thought that sounded great. When i pop it the movie in and try playing this feature it says, "unable to view this feature, your player does not support bonusview". I have a Sony bdp-s300,a pretty decent blu ray player i like to think,i'm all up to date on my firmware, WHY CANT I WATCH THIS!!!! In my opinion it's kind of a f you to blu-ray fans, i pay alot of money to buy a movie on blu-ray and i cant even see all the features because i dont have the right kind of player???? Either im doing something wrong or blu-ray is kinda pissing me off. Any help would be great, thanks.

I have that same player and it's never had any problems getting into any extras. Have not seen WALL-E yet. Wish I could help.

Your player does not support this feature. Youi need a profile 1.1 player. Your player is profile 1.0.

The BDP 300 isn't Profile 1.1, only 1.0 so we can't watch PiP tracks.

You are not stupid. It's the player.

This is one of many reasons why I replaced my Sony BDP-S300 with a PS3.

I have the same player and it won't play certain BDs at all.

I'm over it and just getting a new player.

What exactly is the Player Profile 1.0/1.1 thing?

Ok see then that pisses me off, I go out and buy a pretty expensive player, I pay a decent amount of money per blu-ray, and within a year and a half of owning it my player is out of date and cant even play certain special features????? I mean i know technology changes but i could use a dvd player from 1999 and go buy a just released dvd today and at least get all the features, what the hell....

Let's see... dvd technology has been around for quite a while now. Of course it works. It has had 10 years to fix any issues. Blu-ray is new. There will be some bumps along the way.

YOU as a CONSUMER should have done some research first. Here or elsewhere before jumping into a "pretty expensive player". Anyone here could have answered your questions and saved you some trouble and this thread.

YOU don't get to complain.

Unfortunately, you are a casualty of the format war. Both HD DVD and Blu-ray were rushed to market in an attempt to get a jump on the opposition. You always need to be open to these possibilities when becoming an early adopter. Hell, I ran out and picked up Toshiba's HD A1 with a bunch of movies and in less than a year sold off all my entire collection to make the switch to Blu-ray. One thing can be said for HD DVD for sure: My HD A1 was fully functional from day one although it too had its glitches. Your Blu-ray player will likely deliver a great picture for years to come but you will just have to suck it up and buy a new player to accommodate the new features available on the discs. My expensive HD A1 now operates strictly as an upconverting DVD player. The PS3 is reserved for high def playback.

To Drinkmore:

You are right to an extent, but the fact that a dvd player from 10 years ago can access all the features from a dvd disc made today, but a blu-ray player(which is supposedly superior technology) made 2 years ago cant play all the features of disc made today is just stupid....

Funny isn't it? After investing about an hour reading various posts in this and other forums, I was pretty confident that the PS3 was the only way to go. I can honestly say I just dig this machine.

There was a Firmware Update for this player in October:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...d=3976&os_id=7

That might solve some problems.

That's harsh. Not everyone should be expected to become an expert on something prior to making a purchase. Can you imagine buying a VHS VCR only to find out it can't play the latest VHS tapes? Can you imagine buying a VCR period? I remember when I bought a CD carousel that believe it or not couldn't randomly play songs among the five discs. It could only randomly play songs within a single disc. The Sony rep confirmed this for me after the fact. Nice.

My point is, while your argument is not without merit, your expectations of the average consumer (in other words 99.9% of the population) are far, far too great.

No firmware update is going to upgrade this player to profile 1.1 or 2.0.
