Default Is Blu-ray a personal revenge vendetta for Sony?

It's no secret that the Sony-Phillips team have a lot of pride in their track record in creating ground-breaking consumer products like the conventional audio CD back in the 80's. In the early 90's you had the DVD format battle which led to Sony having to concede to Toshiba on the standard for DVD's. You could tell how ticked off Sony was back then and still are. I can't help, but feel Sony is pushing the blu-ray format in hopes of some vindication and restoration of their reputation as the top dog. I don't know. I'm interested to see what everyone's thoughts on this are.

could be personal but this is business and companies invest money into research and development where their mouth is. Undeniable fact is that Sony blu ray has all the qualities of Toshiba format and more thus they believe they have a superior format that is also able to be extendeable in the future unlike Toshiba format.

Exactly, the extra space on a BD is nice but it's the futureproofing that makes this format the clear winner IMO. True neither format will be good enough forever but Blu-ray is designed to keep up with technology for awhile whereas HD-DVD is not.
