Question Which audio equipment do YOU recommend?

I want to get the best out of my PS3, if I don't eat for a few weeks i might be able to have $1000 as a budget, what would be worth my lack of food?

So you need a receiver, speakers, and a subwoofer?

Build slowly, rather than trying to get everything now. Get an amp and a pair of speakers (and perhaps a center channel). Surrounds and subs can wait.

Amazon has some deals right now....

Polk Monitor 70 floorstanding, Polk CS2 center, Polk PSW 10 sub are on sale together for $432 Add some Monitor 30's for rears @ $101, then buy the pioneer 1018 for about $450 and you are just under $1000.... and this is some bad a$$ stuff. Sub is a little weak, but suitable for most applications. Total $983

Sony SS-F6000 fronts, CN5000 center and B3000 rears for $379 on amazon, add a sub elemental Designs A2-300 from elemental designs $350 and an Onkyo 606 $319 on amazon. Very good speakers, BAD A$$ sub, very good receiver total $1048

either one would set you up nice. IMO

See setup in my sig - very pleased with it - cost me under 1000.00 - got it all from Vanns.com mostly because its ALL free shipping.

Sony SS-B3000 Bookshelf Speaker Pair x2 @ $84.97 = $169.94
Onkyo TX-SR606(B) 7.1-Channel Home Theater A/V Receiver x1 = $349.97
Sony SS-CN5000 Center Channel Speaker x1 = $79.97
Sony SS-F6000 Floorstanding Speaker Pair x1 = $179.97
Sony SA-W3800 200 Watt Amplified Subwoofer x1 = $269.97

That's $1049.82 for the whole shebang... and that's shipped!

Anyways, I'm a big fan... not totally the setup I have, but pretty equivalent.

If you need a receiver to go with your PS3, I'd recommend searching for the Yamaha RX-V861, also found as the HTR-6180. It offers 105 watts x 7, is bi-ampable for front speakers, and has full HDMI sound and video upscaling. It doesn't have built in audio decoders for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA, but you don't need to pay for them since your PS3 decodes everything to linear PCM.

Here's a description of it and reviews:

http://www.avrev.com/home-theater-av...-receiver.html

I just found it online and bought it for $277 shipped. The retail price when it was released was $999, and it was one step down from Yamaha's RX-V1800 receiver. You'll get a heck of a lot of receiver with a lot of $$$ left over to upgrade your speakers. It's a steal.
