Default Resume function for Blu-Ray

I kind of got used to the lack of a resume function where the disc starts from the point you last stopped it at, but the other day I rented Reservoir Dogs and the function was there. I pressed stop thinking that when I turn it on the next day, I would have to find the scene it was at, but instead it started right at the spot from the day before.

Does anyone know why this happened? Is the resume function something that is no longer available and it only worked for RD because it was an older disc?

Thanks,

Blu D
