Default Sony BDP-S300 Resume function

I have been reading that there is no resume function on BD Players.

I have a question.
When I press stop, I see where it doesn't resume. I think it says Resume Off and it starts again from the beginning.
I have a Harmony 880 remote. If I switch from watching a Blu-Ray to watching TV, the Blu-Ray player will say resume. Also, when I switch back, it will start back where I left off by just pressing play.
So, apparently, it does have the ability to resume. I am not sure what command the remote sends when switching, but it is not pause or stop.

That is extremely interesting. So you are suggesting that the Harmony remote is sending a command to the Blu-ray player that is not the same command that the player's original remote would send.

That is my guess.
I have tried pressing Pause and Stop to get it to show RESUME on the screen, but it doesn't work the same.

The resume feature is tied to the specific Blu-ray title, not the blu-ray player. All the BD players (as far as I know) are able to resume play where you left off except for titles that have Java content. Titles like POTC which have Java encoding will not allow the resume feature - its built into the disc which forces you to start from the beginning. Titles without Java content will resume just fine provided you don't hit the "stop" key twice before turning your BD player off (which cancels the resume function in most players). Using a Harmony remote, you need to be careful how you program it because it can be set to issue a separate "stop" command to the BD player when you power down and if you've already hit "stop" once then the second "stop" command will cancel resume.

On many of the Sony players pressing stop once puts the player into resume mode and a second press stops it completely.

What is happening is that when you stop a playing disc with power off button the player is only receiving one stop command. If the disc is already stopped the player receives two because the remote always sends a stop command before the power off command.

I know that many Blu-ray discs don't resume at all - why it was happening on discs that sometime resume only dawned on me where I used the remote on my Sony DVD player which always resumes discs when used with its own remote.

Now, if anyone knows how to make the Harmony stop sending the double stop command I'd be delighted to know.

Simple. If you are playing a non-Java BD then pause the movie where you want to resume and then hit the shut down button on the Harmony. It will turn everything off and only one "stop" function will be sent to the player. When you start up next time, it will resume where you left off.
