Default Resume function for Blu-Ray

I kind of got used to the lack of a resume function where the disc starts from the point you last stopped it at, but the other day I rented Reservoir Dogs and the function was there. I pressed stop thinking that when I turn it on the next day, I would have to find the scene it was at, but instead it started right at the spot from the day before.

Does anyone know why this happened? Is the resume function something that is no longer available and it only worked for RD because it was an older disc?

Thanks,

Blu D

No, it was added through firmware updates.

What player?
I use computers for BD playback, resume is one of the neat features I have the software(s) ask me each time I insert the disc.
Even if it resumes at the credits, I don't have to sit through or FFW past the trailers and warnings.

Discs that are BD-J enabled will NOT be able to resume from last viewed position upon start-up. Resevoir Dogs is not BD-J enabled, so it works like legacy DVD's, resuming from last viewed positin on the disc.

Is there a way to disable this? I have a Sony BDP S350.

Nope, sorry. When a disc is Java-enabled, the resume function will not work. Just part of the software.

For BD-java titles, they'll often have bookmark functionality that can serve that purpose. You just have to remember to add one before you stop the movie.

Now wait, I thought you could disable the resume play feature, no? I could swear I saw the option somewhere to "Play disc from beginning" or something to that effect.

I often scan a disc for a good demo chapter and aspect ratio so I can let dealers know in our newsletter. Problem is, if I stop that disc during the film and pop it in 2 weeks later to watch it in it's entirety, it starts where I stopped it 2 weeks prior. That drives me nuts. I'm looking for a way to shut that feature off so I don't have to chapter skip all the way to the end of a title I DO scan for the aforementioned reasons.

Speaking of resume functions, is there any way to clear the cache (or whatever) on the PS3 to clear all resume data for my movies?

This feature has it's uses, but it's annoying when I go to watch a movie months later and it picks up where I last left off (and have long since forgotten about). I just want to clear out any resume saves.

I think it's normally the green button that saves a bookmark but I think it can vary based on the title/studio. The loading the bookmark part may vary also but you can normally find it under the scene access part. You can view the bookmarks you've added and jump to whatever one you want, delete the ones you no longer need, etc.

I think it's under the BD Data utility.
