hey guys,
I don't get this, i open up my email and find that one of my friends sent me a link to an article about bluray being a dead format. the writer is arguing about a failing strategy followed by the BD association, plus the current economic reccession having an impact on sales. first off I am BD fan don't consider this thread to be a statement I am making, I am merely sharing what I read, to you guys. secondly, although I completely disagree with the article other than the fact that yes during a recession of course there will be an impact on sales, but it is a general impact that takes toll on like malls, electronic, automobiles, Jobs etc... the list goes on, what i find ridiculous is the writer's target against bluray. anyways, here is the link: http://blogs.zdnet.com/storage/?p=365 read it, and share your thoughts on this. |

Yeah I saw that article awhile ago too. It's such old news. Blu-Ray is doing better than ever before and will continue to grow. Just look at the influx of new members here that received BR-players and movies for x-mas.
The guys who write these articles I think liked HD-DuD or are getting paid from Micro$oft to promote HD downloads. Every article talks about the downloads but, they can not compare to the quality of Blu, and they will not compare for years. Blu-Ray is here to stay and will be here easily for the next 10 years. Just like DVD had 10+ years. Blu for life!! ![]() |

Even the new supposed wonder box the "Vudu" is causing issues with its users.....don't know all the facts, but I heard it has to do with (the company lied to their owners)using the owners' bandwidth and racking up their bills........
![]() poor download junkies........maybe someday they'll get it all right. ![]() |

Well, like pretty much everyone here, I agree that this article is crap and Blu-Ray is doing just fine.
However, IF this guy was right, and if at some point down the road digital downloads do become a threat to BD and there is no newer, better physical format option to go with, then I will have no regrets what so ever about jumping on the BD bandwagon in the first place, and I will kling to my collection and will do my best to buy more movies on the format if available (including hunting down any catalog releases that I just never got around to buying at that point). I hate the idea of digital downloads. I hate DRM restrictions, and I love having a physical piece of media that I can hold, transport with me, and put into pretty much any functioning player (with any needed firmware updates applied) and be able to use it. Now, in all honestly, if a time ever were to come where digital downloads were the only option for new media going forward (including newer movies and TV shows), there's a good chance that I would crack and use it to some extent. But ONLY for content that I feel I MUST HAVE, and cannot get on BD or in some other physical format. My choices would become much more selective, and I would do everything to keep my existing collection going. The movie and TV industry would lose a lot of money from me compared to the rate at which I currently buy movies and TV shows on BD (and DVD for content not available on BD). Even if these downloads were to get to a point where the PQ and AQ of digital downloads were to vastly surpass that of Blu-Ray, I would still kling to my existing collection and not rebuy anything that I already have on BD or some other physical format and is still functioning. I would take DVD, VHS, or even HD-DVD over downloads any day if at all possible. I will acquire extra players to keep my collection working as long as possible. Downloads SUCK! |
